Review: Balance Bar Peanut Butter Bar
So I'm steadily reviewing my way through the box of sample bars that Balance Bar sent me to try out. Some of them have interested me and I've been excited to try them, some of them I have dreaded reviewing and others are just there and I really have no feelings on them whatsoever because they are just boring. That's the case with this Balance Bar Peanut Butter Bar bar. Now, I love Peanut Butter as much as anyone in the world, but a bar that is just peanut butter is a pretty boring thing. What made this one almost a dread for me to review was the fact that I reviewed Balance's Nimble Peanut Butter bar and it was awful, so having this bar from their normal line of bars with the same name did not exactly fill me with a great sense of anticipation. That said, I made it my goal to review every single one of the samples they sent me, so it's time to review this 1.76 ounce bar that had 200 calories and fifteen grams of protein.

Review: Dannon Light & Fit Cherry Greek Yogurt
One of the things that I had never really tried prior to starting this blog (today is the one year anniversary of its launch) is Greek yogurt and now this far down the line, I've had more Greek yogurt than I would care to admit. Within the past few months, Dannon introduced a Greek yogurt component to their oft-reviewed Light & Fit product line and today is the first review of that product line with this review of the Dannon Light & Fit Cherry Greek Yogurt. They don't sell this in single servings in my stores, so I picked up a four pack of these for $3.99 at my local Meijer. Each container is 5.3 ounces and a surprisingly low (for Greek yogurt) 80 calories with twelve grams of protein. I've got to admit...I'm pleasantly surprised by the fact that Dannon continued its Light & Fit motif on this by making it eighty calories just like they do with their regular line, so that's impressive.

Review: Bora Bora Paradise Walnut Pistachio Bar
I've done several of these Bora Bora reviews and the tropical/paradise motif of these bars amuses me for some reason. Sure it's got a lot of fruits and nuts, but so do forests, so I'm not quite sure why they are so insistent on drawing the comparison to "sex" up the bars (they are referred to as "Exotic Fruit and Nut Bars"). Anyway, I picked up this Bora Bora Paradise Walnut Pistachio Bar on sale at Meijer for $0.75 and it comes in at 1.4 ounces with a respectable 180 calories and four grams of protein. With that limited protein, it's purely an energy and/or snack bar. Oh yeah, by the way, it's an antioxidant bar too. Yippee!!
Review: MET-Rx Big 100 Colossal Chocolate Toasted Almond Bar
I've yet to figure out why I continue to buy these MET-Rx bars since I don't use them to build muscle or as meal replacement bars as they are intended, yet I continue to do reviews on them. My willingness to keep forking over cash on something I don't really want or need leads me to do yet another review with this MET-Rx Big 100 Colossal Chocolate Toasted Almond Bar from their Big 100 Colossal line of bars. Dubbed as a Meal Replacement bar, this hulking bar clocks in at 3.52 ounces and consists of 410 calories and 31 grams of protein. One note is that the bar advertises on the front of the packaging that it includes Metamyosn Protein, which admittedly sounds kind of scary because I have no idea what it is. Still, it can't be all bad, right? Oh yeah, this was picked up on sale at CVS for $2.00.

Review: Planters NUT-rition Energy Mix Cinnamon Raisin Granola Peanut Butter
For regular readers of the blog, I think I've conveyed my thoughts on peanut butter many times before. For newer visitors that have not visited the site before, I'll spell it out for you: I LOVE peanut butter. I can't control myself around it and have in fact placed it on my personal "do not buy" list. That said, I found my way to a Planters Facebook promotion where they were giving out samples of their new NUT-rition Peanut Butter products and being the whore for free products that I am, I of course grabbed up a free product voucher. Planters sent me my voucher a couple weeks later and I trudged to my local Meijer to pick up my free jar of this Planters NUT-rition Cinnamon Raisin Granola Peanut Butter, which they've deemed as part of their Energy Mix portion of NUT-rition products. I've reviewed several Planters bars before, but this was my first foray into their other products. It's twelve ounces and each jar contains about ten servings of this "healthy" peanut butter and each two tablespoon serving is 180 calories.

Review: NOW White Chocolate, Fruit & Nut Energy Bar
So here we go with my second NOW (No Opportunity Wasted) energy bar review. These bars are faced by Phil Keoghan, the host of CBS' Amazing Race, and are made with white chia seeds and New Zealand's own Manuka honey, which apparently is quite the bacteria fighter. Like the last review, I managed to get my hands on this NOW White Chocolate, Fruit & Nut Energy Bar via a free sample and it's just a sample size (read: tiny) representation of the bar, so the sizes and calories of this would not apply to what you'd find when purchasing this out in nature. With that said, this sample is 0.71 ounces and has 80 calories with three grams of protein.

Review: CLIF Peanut Toffee Buzz Bar
In the many CLIF Bar reviews that I have done, I can honestly say that outside of a few flavors, I've never been too impressed with their products and have never understood why they get such a devout following. It's not that they taste awful, but the majority of them are just soft and chewy mixes of nothingness. That said, I'm still going to try them out and during one of my regular visits to The Dollar Tree recently, this CLIF Peanut Toffee Buzz bar jumped out at me and I grabbed it and lugged it home to try out. As with all CLIF bars, this one is 2.4 ounces, 240 calories and contains ten grams of protein. One thing that is different about this one is that it carries on its packaging a warning label of "Contains Caffeine" and that is something I've never seen on a CLIF product before, so my interest was definitely piqued by that. In case you were wondering, the caffeine comes from Green Tea Extract, which is listed as one of the ingredients on the wrapper.

Review: Blue Bell Southern Peach Cobbler Ice Cream
You know what irritates me? When manufacturers, especially ice cream manufacturers, don't put product descriptions on the outside of their containers to describe what is inside the container. Obviously in some flavor instances it's not necessary (vanilla, chocolate, etc.) but when you come up with something like this Blue Bell Southern Peach Cobbler Ice Cream, you'd expect some sort of description (turns out that it is on the half gallon size, just not the pint size). I obviously know what peach cobbler is, but what I'd like to know is what Blue Bell's interpretation of peach cobbler is so that I know what I'm diving into before I actually taste it. So, when I was flying blind heading into this review with not knowing that general info, I was kind of perturbed but since it is my beloved ice cream, I was able to get over it quickly with yet another Blue Bell review. By the way, I picked up this pint on sale at Meijer for $1.67 and it's sixteen ounces (DUH!) and contains four half cup servings with each serving coming in at 160 calories.

Review: New Orleans Ice Cream Company Bananas Foster Ice Cream
So I move onto another New Orleans Ice Cream Company review from the free shipment of pints that I received and that leads me to this review of the New Orleans Ice Cream Company Bananas Foster Ice Cream. Before I dive into this review, I'll just lay it out there for people that aren't regular readers of the blog (or may not remember)...I HATE bananas. I eat maybe two of them a year when there is nothing else available to eat, but I try my hardest to avoid them at all costs. Because of that, just know that I'm going to be biased against this one going in. That said, this pint contains four half-cup servings at 200 calories per serving.

Review: Walden Farms Bacon Dip
A little while back I was on Netrition.com making a large purchase of new Walden Farms products to try out, some of which I've reviewed already, and while perusing the list, I saw a new dip that seemed unimaginable to me in a zero calorie form. That dip was none other than the Walden Farms Bacon Dip and since I didn't see how this was possible, I knew that I had to add a jar to my order to try it out. Like I said, I got this off Netrition.com for $3.79 and each twelve ounce container is zero calories, sugar free, etc. Basically, is the same old, same old for Walden Farms.

Review: NuGo Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Bar
So my last NuGo review didn't go so well. I was so appalled by the bar that I spit it out after I got halfway through because I couldn't bear the thought of eating any more of it. Because of that, I wasn't exactly excited to review this NuGo Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip Bar, but since NuGo sent me coupons to get this bar for free, I felt that I had to give it a review. Plus, I was hungry, which also may have had something to do with it. The bar itself was 1.76 ounces with 200 calories and ten grams of protein. It was also dairy free, which as I learned from NuGo after my last review, all dark chocolate is that way. I never knew that.

Review: Balance Bar Gold Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar
Chocolate and peanut butter is a good, but basic flavor combination and it not one to often get excited about. But, when I see that Balance Bar has a "Gold" version of this classic flavor combination, I do tend to get somewhat excited because it makes me curious as to how they can make that flavor combination better. So, that leads me to another Balance Bar review with a review of this product from their Gold line of bars with the Chocolate Peanut Butter bar. This one came along with the shipment of free demo bars that Balance provided me and is the standard 1.76 ounces with 200 calories and fourteen grams of protein.

Review: Lifeway Lowfat Kefir Probiotic Blueberry Yogurt Smoothie
In my continuing effort to expand my horizons and also to vary the content on this blog to something other than ice cream, Greek yogurt and nutrition bars, I've been trying to pick up a wider variety of products and that includes yogurt smoothies. That attempt at expansion of my horizons leads me to this review of a Lifeway Lowfat Kefir Probiotic Blueberry Yogurt Smoothie that I picked up at Kroger for $1.25. This smoothie measures eight fluid ounces and has 140 calories with eleven grams of protein. It also is gluten free, kosher, probiotic and has ten active milk cultures, which Lifeway calls that mix their proprietary "ProBoost."

Review: Zone Perfect Chocolate Mint Nutrition Bar
Looking at their website, I would almost equate Zone Perfect with CLIF in the fact that they have so many different flavors of bars and so many different product lines. I've touched on a lot of the product lines already, but this review takes me back to their Classic line of bars with this review of the Zone Perfect Chocolate Mint Nutrition Bar. As stated before, chocolate and mint are not my favorite combination, but the more product that I have that consist of this flavor combination, the more I find myself starting to moderately enjoy it, so this bar will be another indicator to see if that trend continues. I picked up this bar on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and it comes in at the standard size of 1.76 ounces and has 210 calories and fourteen grams of protein.
Review: PowerBar Nuts Naturals Mixed Nuts Energy Bar
While I absolutely love trail/mixed nut mixes and can't keep my hands out of the bag/bowl when it is near me, I can't say that I was particularly enthusiastic about reviewing this bar since I pretty much could assume what I was going to get. Still, I review these things for two reasons: first, I am hungry and need something to eat; secondly, I want to see if these companies can screw up even the easy tings. With those two reasons locked up and ready to go, I was led to another PowerBar review with this review of the Mixed Nuts Energy Bar from their Nuts Naturals line. I picked this up for around a dollar at Meijer and it is 1.58 ounces with 210 calories and ten grams of protein. As with all PowerBar products, they recommend eating their bars during certain stages of exercise (before/during/after) and they recommend that this one be eaten during your activity. Not when I ate it, but hey, not everything can be followed to the letter of the law.

Review: Breyers Blasts! Heath English Toffee Frozen Dairy Dessert
In my previous Breyers Blasts! review of their Chips Ahoy! flavor, I remarked how they certainly didn't short you on the amount of add-ins that you receive, which is certainly the whole point of the Breyers Blasts! line of products. When I picked up that last container, I picked up a second container to check out and that leads me to this review of the Breyers Blasts! Heath English Toffee Frozen Dairy Dessert. Just like last time, this was picked up at Marsh for $3.00 for the 1.5 quart container. Each container contains about twelve servings and since this is frozen dairy dessert and not actual ice cream, it's a fairly economical 140 calories per serving.

Review: Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate Ice Cream
So here we are with my final review of my initial fat kid/bargain hunter Blue Bell purchase. Disposing with the lame intro, I'll just hop right in with the product details and head straight for the review of this Dutch Chocolate ice cream pint. For these detail purposes, I picked up this pint at Meijer for an absurd $1.67 and it contains the typical four servings to a pint with each serving equating to a quite tame 160 calories.

Review: WholeSoy & Co. Raspberry Soy Yogurt
If you stop and think about it, the amount of uses that people find for soy beans is truly amazing. Meat fillers, veggie products, etc. I've been spending a lot of time in the organic section at my store recently for some reason and when I was going through looking at the yogurt products, I encountered this WholeSoy & Co. Raspberry Soy Yogurt. Soy yogurt? Well, this was a first for me. Upon further examination, I found out that not only was this a soy yogurt, but it was also a yogurt that was dairy free. Dairy free yogurt? Now I've heard it all. My continuing education notwithstanding, the organic food section in question was located at my local Kroger where I picked up this six ounce single serving cup of yogurt on sale for $1.00. It's 170 calories and has six grams of protein. To continue it's uniqueness, it's also gluten free, vegan and a Non-GMO product.

Review: CLIF Chocolate Brownie Bar
CLIF has a wide variety of products and flavors blah, blah, blah...I feel like I've written that intro a million times, so I'll spare the rest of the niceties and just get on to writing another CLIF review, this time involving the Chocolate Brownie Bar. Chocolate and brownies are two wonderful things, so I kept my hopes high that this would pan out and be delicious. The bar, as with most CLIF bars, is 2.4 ounces, has 240 calories and 9 grams of protein. It's made with CLIF's oats, rice crisp and soybean mix, in addition to whatever the chosen flavor of the day is. I picked this up at Meijer for $1.09, by the way.

Review: Kraft MilkBite Peanut Butter Milk & Granola Bar
Kraft debuted their MilkBite line of milk and granola bars quite some time ago to much fanfare, but for some reason, I had stayed away from them for the longest time. I really wish I could figure out why too because it's like I have some sort of vendetta against them. In fact, everything about them sounds appealing to me because I love milk, I love granola and I love snack bars. Yet, I still stayed away. Finally after looking at them in the store countless times, I decided to take the plunge and pick up a box of these Kraft MilkBite Peanut Butter Milk & Granola Bars on sale at Meijer for $2.00. Each box contains five bars and each bar comes in at 1.23 ounces. Each bar is also 140 calories and contains five grams of protein. What makes these bars unique from other bars on the market is that since they contain real milk, they have to be kept in the refrigerator in order to preserve them for time. For me, that's not a big deal since I prefer my granola bars to be kept in the refrigerator anyway, but actually having a manufacturer tell you to do that is quite a change.

Review: Turkey Hill Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream
So, I mentioned that I realized that I was lacking in my Turkey Hill reviews, so I picked up a couple of containers to add to that collection and that leads me to this review of the Turkey Hill Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream. Like the last, I picked this up at Kroger on sale for $2.99 for a 1.5 quart container that contains roughly twelve half cup servings at 150 calories per serving. It's an original recipe and a premium ice cream, so based on its staying power and premium description, you'd at least think it was pretty good, eh? Well, that's what I'm here to find out!

Review: Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Nutty Delights Honey Roasted Almond Bar
Every time I see a product touting its fiber content, I can only think of one thing. Sorry, I have a dirty mind. I'll try to keep those thoughts to myself though throughout this review of another Kellogg's FiberPlus product with this review of the Kellogg's FiberPlus Antioxidants Nutty Delights Honey Roasted Almond Bar. I picked up a box of five of these at Meijer on sale at Meijer for $2.50. Each bar in the box is 1.2 ounces and contains 150 calories, three grams of protein and most importantly, 25% of your daily fiber intake (based on a 2,000 calorie diet)! Wow, I'm sold already!

Review: Atkins Advantage Caramel Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bar
So, I've mentioned in my prior Atkins reviews that they run promotions on their website from time to time where they give out free products as a way of promoting their "diet". It's a good thing that they do give them out for free, because every time I look at their stuff in the store, I notice the price and then keep on going. But, since it was free and I've had some good experiences, I'm always willing to try something new out and that leads me to this review of the Atkins Advantage Caramel Chocolate Peanut Nougat Bar. This one comes in at a respectable 1.6 ounces and also has a respectable 180 calories with ten grams of protein. It's marketed as a snack and/or light meal bar, so that would definitely make sense when compared to its size proportions.

Review: Walden Farms Jersey Sweet Onion Salad Dressing
I don't think it's a secret that I like doing reviews of Walden Farms products. I'm always interested to find a new and flavorful way to cut the calories from my increasingly unhealthy diet. Walden Farms seemingly has an answer for every situation and that leads me to this review of their Jersey Sweet Onion Salad Dressing. I picked up a twelve ounce bottle of this at Netrition.com for $3.79 and as usual, it's calorie free, sugar free, etc.

Review: Quaker Chewy Dipps Peanut Butter Granola Bar
Being that this isn't my first Dipps review, I'll spare you the long introduction. Basically, these are the decadent version of Quaker's standard Chewy granola bars of which I've done several reviews. What makes them decadent? Well, that's easy...it's the chocolate. Anyway, I picked this box of Chewy Dipps Peanut Butter granola bars up at Meijer on sale for $2.00 for a box of five. Each bar comes in it at 1.05 ounces (smaller than the other Dipps bars by 0.04 ounces; hmm...) and has 150 calories.

Review: Velvet Ice Cream Company Buckeye Classic Ice Cream
I usually try to stay with national brands on this blog, but sometimes I'll be wandering through the store and I'll see a regional brand that piques my interest and that's what happened with the subject of this review with the Velvet Ice Cream Company Buckeye Classic Ice Cream. I figure what better time than fall is there to review a product based out of Ohio that shares a name with a tree nut and also one of college football's preeminent powerhouse teams? Also, I have a bit of an attachment to Buckeyes (the candy, not the team) since I used to make them every single year in a family cookies/candy competition that my family had around Christmas every year. For those of you that don't know what a Buckeye is, it's a candy made of a peanut butter mixture and then dipped in chocolate so that it resembles the nut itself and quite honestly, it is freaking delicious (here's a Wikipedia link if you want to learn more). As for the nut itself, it's worthless and if you ever want to make an Ohio State Buckeyes fan mad, tell them their team is named for a worthless nut. Of course, you should probably make sure that your team is not named Hoosiers like mine is before making that joke because at least there is something that their name represents. No one quite knows what a Hoosier is.
Okay, enough of my incoherent rambling...I picked up a 1.75 quart container of this at my local Kroger, an Ohio based grocer and thus the connection to an Ohio based ice cream maker, on sale for $2.99 and it contains 14 servings of ice cream at 180 calories per serving.

Review: Balance Bar Gold Lemon Meringue Crunch Bar
It's no secret that I eat a lot of protein/health bars for this blog. In fact, reviewing protein/health bars was the primary reason I started this blog because I decided I was going to start eating them as a way to add weight/bulk to my frame. Now that I've been doing this for many months, I've eaten a ton of these things and I'm starting to get used to them (I don't want to say tired of them). Anyway, when a manufacturer like Balance Bar sends me a box of bars to try out, I feel obligated to do a review of every flavor, so here we go with this Lemon Meringue Crunch bar from their Gold line of bars. This one is the Balance Bar standard of 1.76 ounces and has 200 calories. It also has fourteen grams of protein and what makes it a "Gold" bar is that it is based on the premise of "Three Indulgent Layers". Let's see how indulgent this one really is...

Review: PowerBar Triple Threat Energy S'mores Bar
I was just looking through the archives and I realized that every single S'mores product that I've reviewed on this blog has gotten a BUY IT rating, so that means that this review of the PowerBar Triple Threat Energy S'mores bar has some pretty lofty standards to meet if it wants to continue what I see as a pretty remarkable winning streak for S'mores flavored products. Heck, I didn't realize I like S'mores so much until I looked that up. So, it's a learning experience for me too. Anyway, I picked up this bar at Meijer for $1.09. It's angled toward the before and after cycles of exercise according to PowerBar and it clocks it at 1.94 ounces with 230 calories and ten grams of protein.

Review: New Orleans Ice Cream Company Mint Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream
I'm going to come out and say it...mint ice cream is just about my least favorite ice cream in the world. With that said, I can't turn down free ice cream and since New Orleans Ice Cream Company generously sent me several pints to review, I'm led to review this pint of New Orleans Ice Cream Company Mint Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream. One thing I will note is that for each pint of this sold, New Orleans Ice Cream Company donates a portion of the proceeds to the Make It Right Foundation to help re-build the Lower 9th Ward of the city after the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Pretty cool. Anyway, a pint of this has four half-cup servings and each serving has 250 calories per serving.

Review: SOYJOY Apple Walnut Baked Soy & Fruit Bar
It's funny how your entire perception of a product can change. In the past, I was terrified of SOYJOY products. In my reviews for this blog, I've found that I like their products and have been anxious to try out new flavors. It's that urge that led me to pick up another flavor of their baked soy & fruit bars with this Apple Walnut version and give it a try for the blog. I picked it up at Marsh for $1.00 and it comes it at 1.05 ounces with 140 calories and four grams of protein.

Review: Zone Perfect Perfectly Simple Peanut Crunch Bar
So I've always considered Zone Perfect to be kind of like CLIF in that they have countless variations of their products and I've reviewed many of them. They semi-recently introduced a new variation of bars called "Perfectly Simple" bars that have a premise of being produced with a very limited number of ingredients. Always curious and also always looking for free stuff, I picked up this Zone Perfect Perfectly Simple Peanut Crunch Bar for free via a promotion on the Zone Perfect website. It's 1.58 ounces, 190 calories and has ten grams of protein. Since it is Perfectly Simple, it consists of only six ingredients and those ingredients include peanut butter, cane syrup, soy protein isolate, date paste, rolled oats and coconut. Outside of soy protein isolate, all of those ingredients sound pretty benign and boring to me, but boring does not always mean bad.

Review: MET-Rx Big 100 Rocky Road Cookie Dough Bar
In my previous reviews of MET-Rx bars, I've shared each time that these bars generally seem to me like they are for meatheads (I am not one) and that they are huge. I'll spare the long intro regurgitating that again and instead just break into the review of the bar. Firstly, I got this Big 100 Rocky Road Cookie Dough bar on sale for $2.00 at CVS and it clocks in at a gargantuan 3.52 ounces (it is a meal replacement bar after all). It's 380 calories and contains an iron pumping 28 grams of protein. The bar seems entirely manufactured, but they do manage to point out on the packaging that is does not have any artificial flavors or colors, so that is soothing I suppose.

Review: Skinny Cow Caramel Cone Low Fat Single Serving Ice Cream Cup
Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but one of my goals for 2012 was to find a way to "manage" my ice cream addiction. I'm not going to necessarily stop eating it (yeah right!), but I wanted to find a way to at least reduce/control my frequent ice cream splurges on occasion. One of the ways that I've tried (and failed) to do this is via single serve cups and since Skinny Cow has several of these varieties, some of which I've reviewed already, I'm led to this Skinny Cow Caramel Cone Low Fat Single Serving Ice Cream Cup. I picked this one up at Meijer for $1.25 and as with all their single serving cups, it comes in at 5.8 ounces. Each cup contains 160 calories and since this is technically a "diet" product, I would be remiss if I did not mention that this one is five points on the Weight Watchers Points Plus chart.
