Review: Bora Bora Paradise Walnut Pistachio Bar

I've done several of these Bora Bora reviews and the tropical/paradise motif of these bars amuses me for some reason.  Sure it's got a lot of fruits and nuts, but so do forests, so I'm not quite sure why they are so insistent on drawing the comparison to "sex" up the bars (they are referred to as "Exotic Fruit and Nut Bars").  Anyway, I picked up this Bora Bora Paradise Walnut Pistachio Bar on sale at Meijer for $0.75 and it comes in at 1.4 ounces with a respectable 180 calories and four grams of protein.  With that limited protein, it's purely an energy and/or snack bar.  Oh yeah, by the way, it's an antioxidant bar too.  Yippee!!

If you've seen these or read my prior reviews, you'll know that they come in clear packaging to expose themselves to the world, so there's not that big reveal when I open the wrapper like their is with other bars.  Still, just to keep with the long form of each review, let's go through what this bar consists of.  It has large and plentiful pistachio pieces, good-sized raisins, surprisingly large walnuts and also the standard rice crisp mix.  All of that is bound together by syrups and honey and I will say that there is also cinnamon in this bar, because you can clearly smell it's strong odor when this is out in the open.

That cinnamon smell certainly translates to the taste as well as the cinnamon is quite a strong facet in the taste of this bar.  Cinnamon and sweet raisins are always a good flavor combination and you definitely get that when you chew through this bar.  What you also get is a strong salty taste from the pistachios as well.  Adding to that salty pistachio taste is more salty taste from sea salt, which I read in the ingredients and it's definitely in there and prevalent.  It actually overtook the sweetness of the raisins and honey and I was not fond of that.  One thing that did surprise me about this bar is that I expected it to be exceptionally hard to chew because of the overload of walnuts and pistachios, but what I got instead was a mostly soft and chewy bar that had an occasional pop of crunch from when I encountered a walnut and/or pistachio.  I can honestly say that I enjoyed that because it was entirely unexpected.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Despite the fact that this bar did have some positives in my mind (the cinnamon, raisins and crunch), I just couldn't get over the saltiness of this and give it a FLY BY IT rating.  Pistachios are not my favorite nut in the world and the strength of their taste along with the additional sea salt was just too much for me.  Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad bar, but it's just not my personal cup of tea.  Others may enjoy this quite a bit though.

FLY BY IT!!
