Review: Skinny Cow Triple Chocolate Ripple Low Fat Ice Cream Bars

I've been shying away from Skinny Cow product reviews because their flavors have gone stale and because their products are just too expensive to buy on a regular basis.  On a recent trip to Kroger, not only was I met with a sale but I was also met with some new flavors of products in their low fat ice cream bar line.  One of those products was this box of five Skinny Cow Triple Chocolate Ripple Low Fat Ice Cream Bars that I was able to pick up for $2.99 on sale, which is a pretty solid price for Skinny Cow products.  Typically, they run $4-5.  Anyway, each bar in the box is 2.65 fluid ounces and comes in at 170 calories per bar.

Review: Edy's (Dreyer's) Peanut Butter Pie Frozen Custard

I'm not going to kid myself anymore.  I am on a fully crazed dessert binge.  Cookies, ice cream, cake, custard (in today's case), whatever.  I can't get enough of my sweets and I'm eating a ton of them.  Some of that has been reflected on the blog.  BUT, in this case, it's probably okay.  I've lost a bunch of weight (not be design) and I need to put a few pounds back on as I've mentioned before, so this course of action certainly helps me do that, even though they aren't healthy pounds since they are backed in sugar and junk.  Oh well.  Anyway, today's review adds to my Edy's (Dreyer's in the west) review collection as I was able to grab a 32 ounce container of this new Edy's (Dreyer's) Peanut Butter Pie Custard at my local Kroger on sale for $2.99.  Each container has eight half-cup servings and each serving is 250 calories.

Review: Edy's (Dreyer's) Grand Sunny Salted Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream

Unless I'm doing a specific week dedicated to a particular product manufacturer or theme, I usually like to spread out the reviews.  But, since yesterday's Edy's review and today's review are of limited edition summer-related products and summer traditionally is considered over after the upcoming Labor Day weekend, I've got to abandon my typical tactics and post a review of today's Edy's (Dreyer's) Grand Sunny Salted Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream before it disappears off the shelves.  Like yesterday's review, I got this one on sale at Kroger for $2.99 and each container contains the classic twelve half-cup servings.  Each of those servings scores out at 150 calories, so for a full-powered ice cream, albeit one made with skim milk, that's not so bad.  As with yesterday's baseball themed review, Edy's has decided to tie what is seemingly a basic flavor combination to summer by calling this "Sunny."  I'm still not sure how that works, but I'll play along.

Review: Edy's (Dreyer's) Grand 3 Stripes You're Out Ice Cream

When I think of summer, I often think of fresh fruit and baseball, among other things.  It's only natural then that an ice cream company, like Edy's would try and take some of those things and match them together to make a limited edition summertime release.  With that, I picked up a 1.5 quart container of Edy's (Dreyer's) Grand 3 Stripes You're Out Ice Cream on sale at Kroger for $2.99 during a recent super sale to add to my growing Edy's catalog.  Each typical half-cup serving (there's twelve of them) come in with 130 calories per serving.  Now, I understand that fresh fruit (in this case strawberries and blueberries) are summertime things, but I've never really seen how baseball and berries fit together other than the summer tie-in.  Pretty strange that Edy's would try to brand those two together.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Orchard Peach Sorbet

So this has been quite a week.  Not only have I been focusing on Haagen-Dazs products for the first time, but today's review is a type of food that I've never reviewed on this blog in my life...sorbet.  That's right, the frozen dessert that has no eggs, milk, cream, whatever.  No dairy.  Just sugar, water and fruit.  It's going to be different, but hey, I'm willing to try new things and that leads me to this container of Haagen-Dazs Orchard Peach Sorbet that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $2.49 for a fourteen ounce container.  Each container has 3.5 half-cup servings and each serving is 130 calories.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Rum Raisin Ice Cream

If you read this blog regularly, you can tell that I'm a big fan of ice cream.  What you may not know is that I'm also a big fan of drinking alcohol, so when those two paths cross, it's a dream come true for me.  In fact, the morning that I typed up this review, I actually homemade a batch of White Russian ice cream, so that's how much I love intersecting the two things.  As I previously mentioned in my Haagen-Dazs posts, I picked up three containers of their ice cream in a buy two, get one free sale and this Haagen-Dazs Rum Raisin Ice Cream is the final container from that splurge.  This is one of Haagen-Dazs' traditional flavors and humorously enough, it's also all natural.  Each container is fourteen ounces and has 3.5 half-cup servings.  Each serving is an economical (for Haagen-Dazs) 260 calories.

Review: Klondike Heath Ice Cream Bars

The old commercial tagline for Klondike Bars was "What would you do for a Klondike bar?"  Klondike bars are fine, but I wouldn't even buy them unless they were on sale.  So, in response to the commercial, my answer is that I wouldn't do much.  That said, they were on sale recently as I mentioned in a prior review, so I picked up two different flavors and this Klondike Heath Ice Cream Bar is that second flavor.  I picked these up at Meijer on sale for $2.50 for a box of six and each bar in the box is 230 calories and roughly four ounces per bar.  Obviously modeled after HEATH bars, it's milk chocolate English toffee in ice cream bar form (the tagline is "Kind of like a HEATH bar, only ice creamier"; cute).  I can't remember if I've mentioned this in prior toffee flavored product reviews, but toffee is something that I never really developed a craving for until later in life.  HEATH bars were fine as I was growing up, but they weren't anything that I actively pursued.  It wasn't until later in life when my uncle showed up at Christmas with a brick of toffee from a sweets shop that I developed an intense craving for it.  That stuff was so incredible that it sold me on toffee for life.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Cappuccino Gelato

First things first, coffee...good.  Coffe-flavored ice cream...the jury is still out on that one.  In my continuing quest to have to buy an entire new wardrobe due to eating ice cream, I'm led to yet another Haagen-Dazs gelato review with this review of their Haagen-Dazs Cappuccino Gelato.  After taking a look at that link to their site, I came to the humorous recognition that I've reviewed nearly every single flavor they have after this review (as of this writing; that flavor list could and will probably grow in the future).  Knowing that, I was eager to dive into this fourteen ounce container that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $2.49.  Each container contains the customary 3.5 half-cup servings and each serving clocks in at an economical (for Haagen-Dazs) 230 calories.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Limoncello Gelato

As this week has shown, there have been some incredible Haagen-Dazs sales at my local stores this week and I've been picking up containers of their various products left and right.  So, I'm led to another product out of their new gelato line of desserts with this Haagen-Dazs Limoncello Gelato.  This was on sale at $2.49 for the fourteen ounce container and each container contains 3.5 half-cup servings at 240 calories per serving.  The great thing about this is that Limoncello is just not lemon gelato...not even close.  Well, it is close, but the other primary ingredient is something I'm a very large fan of...VODKA.  Oh boy...

Review: Haagen-Dazs Black Cherry Amaretto Gelato

Haagen-Dazs has been doing no favors to my waistline, but in honor of my dear readers (that's you), I'm plodding on with yet another review to add to this week's theme.  As with before, I picked up this fourteen ounce container of Haagen-Dazs Black Cherry Amaretto Gelato at a ridicuously awesome sale price at Kroger for $2.49.  As usual, this container has 3.5 half-cup sized servings and each serving of gelato checks in at 240 calories.  For those of you that are unaware what Amaretto is, it's an almond-flavored Italian liqueur.  Almonds...yum.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream

I must have lived a sheltered childhood because up until about five years ago, I had never heard of Peanut Butter Pie in my life, which is strange.  It's strange because as this blog has shown, I am all about EVERYTHING regarding peanut butter.  When I found out about Peanut Butter Pie though,  it was almost as if I had been opened up into a whole new and wonderful world.  I ended trying some, making some and basically becoming addicted to them.  When I learned via several blog reviews that there was a limited edition Haagen-Dazs Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream, I knew I had to get my hands on a container once I saw it in the store.  Luckily, my local Marsh started carrying it, so on my way home from the gym one day (hilarious that I'd pick this up after that and you'll see why), I picked up a fourteen ounce container of this in a buy two, get one free sale for $4.25 to add to this week's growing list of reviews.  Each container is the usual 3.5 half-cup servings and what makes the fact that I bought this after the gym amusing is that each of those servings is a very gym-negating 310 calories.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Stracciatella Gelato

Haagen-Dazs week continues with another review to add to the collection.  I'll be the first to admit that prior to seeing news of this gelato on the internet, I had never heard of Stracciatella in my life.  Based on the news of this new flavor introduction, my quest to try new things and ultimately also by the fact that I want more pageviews for the blog (read:  more income), I picked up this fourteen ounce container of Haagen-Dazs Stracciatella Gelato at Kroger on sale for $2.49.  Each container has 3.5 half-cup sized servings and each serving is a fairly robust 270 calories.

Review: Haagen-Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Ice Cream

In my previous Haagen-Dazs reviews, I dug into their limited edition and gelato flavors.  In this review, I'm going to hit up one of their core flavors for the first time in my entire life as I take a look at this container of Haagen-Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Ice Cream.  White chocolate?  Um, yes please.  I love, love, love white chocolate, so I'm hoping this is right in my wheelhouse.  I picked this up in a buy two, get one free sale, but it would ordinarily retail in the ballpark of $5.00 per container.  As for the container itself, it's fourteen ounces, which equates to 3.5 half-cup servings.  Each serving is a robust 280 calories.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Sea Salt Caramel Gelato

After staying away from Haagen-Dazs for the longest time, I've been all over them recently. I've written some reviews, some of which have not been posted yet and will be later this week (I'm going to use this week as a Haagen-Dazs week to bombard a long ignored produc)t.  For the sake of posting relevant and recent content (Google's search engine rankings love me for that), this review of the new-ish Haagen-Dazs Sea Salt Caramel Gelato jumps to the head of the line. Gelato is a new thing for Haagen-Dazs and by putting this out there, they have joined a very small list of gelato competitors to what I'll call the Talenti dynasty. I often complain about Haagen-Dazs' prices, but this tiny 1.8 ounce cup was the perfect price for me: $1.00! Now, I'm not getting a whole lot of gelato for a buck, but it's still enough for me to at least sample whether this is a good flavor or not. What is hilarious about this though is that in this tiny container, there is still a gut busting 240 calories. Gelato or ice cream, Haagen-Dazs is always decadent.

Review: Haagen-Dazs Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream

I don't know why, but I've always stayed away from reviewing Haagen-Dazs products for the blog.  Actually, I don't even buy them at the store either and I'm not sure why.  Maybe it's because I'm angry that their "pints" are only fourteen ounces or that it costs an arm and a leg to buy one (it's probably the latter).  My local Marsh ran a sale recently where it was buy two containers and get a third free, so finally with a deal like that, I was able to get these down to a range where I wouldn't have to take a bank loan just to purchase one.  So, I took the leap and that leads me to this limited edition product review of the Haagen-Dazs Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream.  Each container is fourteen ounces, which equates to 3.5 half-cup servings.  Each serving itself had a robust and completely unhealthy (par for the course with Haagen-Dazs) 290 calories per serving.  This may be off the shelves in your area by now as my Marsh usually keeps things too long (looking at some of their expiration dates is sometimes an adventure), but I'll just go ahead and add my thoughts to the long list of online reviews already done on this (links at the end of this post).

So, after a long week, it's finally time to wrap up my adventure of reviews with this final Skinny Cow (for now) review of the Skinny Cow Strawberry Shortcake Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches that I picked up at the same Marsh mega sale as the rest of this week's reviews for $3.99.  Each box of includes six four fluid ounce sandwiches and each sandwich is 150 calories and worth a four point ding on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale.

There's a work saying that goes "another day, another dollar" and that's the way I feel with these Skinny Cow reviews. It's another day, so it's time to do another review of this Skinny Cow Caramel Truffle Low Fat Ice Cream Bars. One by-product of this review week is that while the cow may be skinny, Crazy Food Dude is becoming decreasingly less so after eating all of these. Anyway, I picked this box of six bars up at the aforementioned Marsh super sale for $3.99. Each bar is 2.65 fluid ounces and a very economical 100 calories. Continuing my Skinny Cow binge, I picked up another one of their limited edition products for a review when I was at my local Marsh Supermarket.  This time, I'm taking a look at the Skinny Cow Snickerdoodle Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches that picked up at the sale price of $3.99, just like all the other products that you'll see this week.  This box has six sandwiches and each sandwich is four fluid ounces with 140 calories and scores a four on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale.  Snickerdoodles are an interesting cookie as they are a mix of cinnamon and oatmeal (a wonderful and classic combination), to me, so I was very curious to see how this would turn out in ice cream sandwich form.

I brought up that the best time to buy Skinny Cow products is when they are on sale because they are often overpriced for what you are getting.  As part of that sale adventure, I picked up this box of Skinny Cow Chocolate Peanut Butter Low Fat Ice Cream Sandwiches for that same sale price of $3.99.  Within each box are six sandwiches that come in at 4.0 fluid ounces and 150 calories each.  It's worth four points on the Weight Watchers PointsPlus scale as well.
