Review: Larabar Coconut Pineapple Cake Bar

In my last Larabar review, I mentioned how delighted I was to see their products make a return to the blog after nearly a year's absence.  Today is the second part of the two bars that I picked up in that shopping trip at Kroger as I picked up this Larabar Coconut Pineapple Cake Bar for $1.00.  The bar itself comes in at 1.6 ounces and has 190 calories with a tiny two grams of protein.  If you are a big fan of health or at least attempts at health, this bar is also dairy free, gluten free, soy free and vegan.

It's been quite a while since the oft-reviewed Larabar has made an appearance here on the blog.  It's been since July 2014, in fact, so it's been almost a year.  Each time I go to the store, I stroll through the aisles yearning to see a new flavor pop up that I've never tried, but it's been a lonely stroll for quite a while.  On a recent stroll, I was very flabbergasted to see TWO new limited edition Larabar products sitting on the shelf at my local Kroger, so I snatched both up for $1.00 each.  Today's review of this Larabar Strawberry Shortcake Bar is the first of those reviews.  The bar itself clocks in at 1.6 ounces and has 200 calories with three grams of protein.  It's also gluten free and vegan, so yahoo there if that is what floats your boat.

Review: Larabar uber Dark Chocolate Peanut Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar

After my last Larabar review, I learned something that I did not know before after a reader left a comment on my Facebook page.  Apparently semi-sweet chocolate is considered dark chocolate, so I guess that is how Larabar can call these bars dark chocolate bars.  I was confused by that previously, but not everything is all cleared up.  Once again, I've been educated by a loyal reader.  Thank you!  Anyway, my newly educated self is ready to dive into this review of this Larabar uber Dark Chocolate Peanut Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar with the knowledge that it truly is dark chocolate.  I picked up this bar on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and each bar is 1.42 ounces with 210 calories and six grams of protein.  It's also kosher and gluten free.

Review: Larabar uber Dark Chocolate Turtle Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar

I don't know about you, but I find Turtle ice cream sundaes fascinating.  The mix of pecans, hot caramel, hot fudge and vanilla ice cream mixed together is just an awesome flavor combination and given my choice of sundaes, I think I'd choose that one 95% of the time.  So, it was with great delight that I found another subject for another Larabar review (after a VERY LONG absence) that was apparently trying to model itself after that sundae according to the name.  With high hopes, I grabbed this Larabar uber Dark Chocolate Turtle Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar off the shelves of my local Kroger for $1.00.  Each bar is 1.42 ounces, 220 calories and has five grams of protein.  It's also gluten free and kosher, so there is that.

Review: Larabar Snickerdoodle Fruit & Nut Bar

Larabar has released several new flavors and after a recent Larabar review, a representative contacted me asking if I'd like to try out one of their new seasonal flavors as a free sample.  Never one to turn down a free sample, I was then sent four of these Larabar Snickerdoodle Fruit & Nut Bars to try out and/or share with friends and co-workers.  Like I and the wrapper said, it's a seasonal flavor (!) and it comes in at 1.6 ounces with 190 calories and four grams of protein.  As with most Larabars, it's made with limited ingredients and is also dairy free, gluten free, kosher and soy free, among other things.

Seriously, who doesn't love a nice hot and gooey sticky bun?  They are freaking awesome, so when I saw Larabar was introducing a new product modeled after the extremely decadent treat through their uber line of products, I knew I had to try it out for another review.  I picked up this new Larabar uber Sticky Bun Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar on sale at Kroger for $0.99 and it comes in at 1.42 ounces with 220 calories and five grams of protein.  Since it aims to be a super-healthy version of a decidedly unhealthy treat, it's gluten free, kosher, etc.

I can appreciate a company that continues to spit out new product variations and Larabar is definitely one of those as I've hit on a cornucopia of their product here on the blog in the past.  This time, I picked up this Larabar uber Coconut Macaroon Sweet and Salty Fruit & Nut Bar on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  The bar comes in at the measureables of 1.42 ounces, 220 calories and four grams of protein.  There's obviously also some other numbers in there, but I'm lazy and only want to hit on what I deem to be the high points.

Review: Larabar ALT Lemon Pound Cake Fruit and Nut Bar

These ALT products from Larabar have been an interesting bag in prior reviews.  I guess interesting is the wrong word...they've certainly been different since they are pea protein based.  Since I picked up a few of these all in the same shopping trip, I'm led to this final review of that purchase splurge with today's review of this Larabar ALT Lemon Pound Cake Fruit and Nut Bar that I picked up at Kroger for $1.00.  Each bar is 1.77 ounces and has 210 calories with ten grams of protein.  It's vegan, gluten free, kosher, non-GMO, etc., so if you are afraid of crossing the street, this safe bar is right up your alley.  Ha, just kidding.

So here we go with another review from the Larabar ALT family of product.  Pea packed and powered, these bars are in a lot of the same flavors as the classic Larabar foods, but they are just jammed packed with that pea/protein element this time in the case of this Larabar ALT Peanut Butter Cookie Fruit and Nut Bar.  I picked this one up on sale at Meijer for $1.25 and it comes in at 1.95 ounces and is packed with 240 calories and ten grams of protein.

Review: Larabar ALT Cinnamon Apple Crisp Fruit and Nut Bar

In my previous Larabar ALT review, I covered what makes these different than a typical protein bar, but I'll go over it again real quick.  Basically, instead of various manufactured ingredients, Larabar has decided to go natural as it source of protein by choosing peas to provide that bunch.  Pretty strange, but as the last review showed, it actually kind of works.  Anyway, I'm making my way through the flavors of these new bars and that leads me to today's review of this Larabar ALT Cinnamon Apple Crisp Fruit and Nut Bar that I picked up at Meijer for $1.25.  It's 1.95 ounces and has 210 calories with ten grams of pea produced protein.

Review: Larabar ALT Pumpkin Pie Fruit and Nut Bar

I've mentioned on the blog before that pumpkin pie has increasingly become my favorite part of Thanksgiving.  I didn't like it for the longest time, but with each passing year, I've grown to like it more and more.  Having said that, seeing Larabar introduce another product to its catalog with these ALT bars by producing this Larabar ALT Pumpkin Pie Fruit and Nut Bar intrigued me quite a bit because it was both new and pumpkin pie-flavored.  In case you were wondering what ALT means, Larabar describes this as "ALT®, the Alternative Protein Bar™, is the first-ever bar with added protein from LÄRABAR! Many bar brands use soy or whey protein, but ALT uses an alternative protein source: peas."  Peas?!  Interesting.  Peas don't bother me though because unlike most of the kids in my elementary school, I always ate my peas when they were served to us at lunch (I also ate at least three other kids' serving of peas each time as well), so I'm definitely not scared of them.  Either way, I picked this up at Meijer for $1.25 and each bar is 1.95 ounces and has 220 calories with ten grams of pea-powered protein.

Review: Larabar Chocolate Coconut Chew Bar

I don't know what it is about Larabar products, but when I initially started the blog, I did many reviews of them and did not like most of them.  I then took a break from them and picked them back up later and now, I find myself liking them more often than not.  That seems strange to me that my mind could have shifted so much, but whatever I supposed.  Anyway, it's the recent positive experiences that led me to pick up this Larabar Chocolate Coconut Chew Bar on sale at Kroger for $1.00 and it's 1.8 ounces with 240 calories and a somewhat ample (for Larabar) five grams of protein.

Larabars have gotten mixed reviews on this blog. Some of them have been abysmal failures, while others have been ringing successes. Because of that, I never know what to expect when taking my first bite, so that unexpectedness always makes these reviews kind of fun. It's that air of uncertainty that leads me to try out another flavor in this Larabar Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte Bar. While I haven't had a lot of success with Larabar products in general, I have had success with their Uber line of products.  With that, I've got to say that I was anxious to dig into this upcoming Uber product because everything about it sounded like a recipe for deliciousness to me.  So, that delicious sounding recipe for awesomeness (Uber) leads me to this review of the Larabar Uber Roasted Nut Roll Fruit & Nut Bar that I picked up at Kroger for $1.00.  It comes in at 1.42 ounces, is 220 calories and contains only five grams of protein.  For a product filled with nuts, that seems like a abnormally low amount of protein to me, but I'm no biochemist, so what the heck do I know?

Review: Larabar Uber Apple Turnover Fruit & Nut Bar

Like I said in my last Larabar review, I've been hard on Larabar product in general in my reviews, but I found that I liked the first bar that I tried out of their Uber line of bars that I had the last time.  With that positive outcome, I was anxious to give this Larabar Uber Apple Turnover Fruit & Nut Bar a try as it was once again from their sweet and salty Uber bar line.  Like the last, I picked this up on sale at Kroger for $0.99 and it comes in at 1.42 ounces with 190 calories and has three grams of protein.  Like all bars in this line, Uber means awesome and while the last bar was not awesome, so to speak, it was quite could. Could Uber continue its winning streak?  I guess you'll just have to keep reading to find out!

Review: Larabar Uber Cherry Cobbler Fruit & Nut Bar

In my many Larabar reviews, I've admittedly been tough on them on occasion.  For a lot of those reviews, I just didn't understand how a product with seemingly no discernible flavor (or at least the flavor it said it was going to be) could make it to market and sell successfully.  So, when I spotted a new product line of theirs with these "Uber" bars, I was a bit skeptical of them.  Curiosity sometimes gets the best of me though, so I picked up this Larabar Uber Cherry Cobbler Fruit & Nut Bar on sale at Kroger for $0.99.  It's 1.42 ounces and has 190 calories and four grams of protein.  Also, in case you were wondering, "Uber" is referred to on the wrapper as having synonyms of "super duper, wicked awesome."  Another amusing thing was that the picture of the front of the wrapper carried the tagline of "Enlarged to show ubnerness."  Seriously?!  For me being skeptical going into this, seeing a bar proclaim itself as that just made me want to hate this bar before I even dug in.

Review: Larabar Apple Pie Food Bar

This is an emotional review for me.  A while back, I went on a major Larabar expedition and bought several of their flavors, all of which you've seen reviewed on this blog.  So my quest leads me to the final bar of that purchasing splurge, the Larabar Apple Pie Food Bar flavored fruit and nut food bar.  I picked this one up at Meijer for $1.09 and it is the standard Larabar size of 1.6 ounces.  In that 1.6 ounces, it packs 190 calories and minimal four grams of protein.  So, as I wipe the tears off my keyboard, let's get started with this emotional review to see if Larabar was able to replicate what some may consider the preeminent American classic food.  It's also dairy free, soy free, gluten free, vegan and kosher, in case you are into that kind of mumbo jumbo.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't had the best luck with Larabar reviews on here and I've probably written this same intro many times.  Sometimes I wonder why I keep reviewing these bars, but they have so many darn flavors that I just can't help myself and continue to buy new flavors in hopes of finding another that I might like.  So, that quest leads me to this Larabar Chocolate Chip Brownie Food Bar.  I picked this one up at Meijer for $1.09 and it is 1.6 ounces, 200 calories and contains four grams of protein.  It's also Kosher, Gluten Free, uses Non-GMO ingredients and uses Fair Trade Certified chocolate, so that's for all the Earth lovers of the world.

Review: Larabar Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bar

Sometimes I think the only reason I keep reviewing Larabar flavors is because I might hate myself.  I've only found one flavor that I actually like, while the rest of been just boring globs of nothingness, some of which border on being terrible.  Still, the optimist in me says that I will somehow open Pandora's box and find a flavor out of their myriad of flavors that actually is one of the best things I've ever eaten.  It's that optimism that leads me to this Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip bar that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $0.99.  Peanut butter and chocolate chips are a wonderful combination, so I could only hope that this carried on to this bar. For semantic purposes, this one comes it at 1.6 ounces and has 230 calories and four grams of protein.

Review: Larabar Blueberry Muffin Food Bar

Looking back at my prior Larabar reviews, it's both sad and amazing to me that I've only found one Larabar that I've truly liked out of all the reviews.  That's just mind boggling to me that there can be so many different varieties of a product and I've only essentially found one of them to be appetizing.  They are all edible, but none are particularly flavorful, in my opinion.  Anyway, in my continuing quest to find another Larabar that I find tasty, I'm led to the Blueberry Muffin flavor food bar.  I picked it up at Kroger on sale for $1.00 and it contains 190 calories and four grams of protein packed into a 1.6 ounce bar.
