Review: Larabar ALT Peanut Butter Cookie Fruit and Nut Bar

So here we go with another review from the Larabar ALT family of product.  Pea packed and powered, these bars are in a lot of the same flavors as the classic Larabar foods, but they are just jammed packed with that pea/protein element this time in the case of this Larabar ALT Peanut Butter Cookie Fruit and Nut Bar.  I picked this one up on sale at Meijer for $1.25 and it comes in at 1.95 ounces and is packed with 240 calories and ten grams of protein.

I already mentioned that Larabar is basically just taking their classic bars and then adding pea protein to them to come up with this ALT line.  That has never been more apparent than it is in this bar as this just seems like a typical Larabar, albeit heaver, as it is primarily a date puree mixed with peanuts.  There's pea protein in there somewhere, but like I said, that's the only difference.  On an observational standpoint, this one carries a strong smell of peanuts, so that's a win.  It was also quite sticky, yet pliable.

Being that there was nothing more than peanuts in here, I was beginning to wonder how Larabar could have the audacity to name this after the cookie.  I then took a minute to think about it and realized that all the cookie really consists of is peanut butter and a little sugar on top, so Larabar mixing a bunch of peanuts together and naming this after the cookie is really not that much of a stretch.  It wasn't much of a stretch when it came to the flavor either because honestly, this really did taste like the cookie.  Obviously the texture was different because this bar was primarily a chewy date and pea puree, but the peanut flavor was nearly spot-on.  I was impressed by that.  The bar itself was chewy with a bit of graininess in it due to the peanut bits, but outside of that cookie taste, there really wasn't anything else going on here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Nothing too special happened with this bar, but it was tasty and it did deliver on the flavor that it promised, so I give it a BUY IT rating.  If you are looking for a protein packed, albeit pea protein, bar that would sort of remind you of the delightful cookie, than this is a pretty good option to pick up if you see it at your store.

BUY IT!!
