Review: Pure Organic Apple Cinnamon Bar

If you click back through the Pure bar review archive, you'll notice a lot of these this year that and that has made me quite popular on the Pure Twitter feed and with the last review, they reminded me that unlike Larabars, their bar was completely organic.  Alrighty then.  So, today's review has me taking a look at this Pure Organic Apple Cinnamon Bar and just so there is no confusion, this is 100% organic!  I picked it up at Whole Foods for $1.50 and the bar itself comes in at 1.7 ounces and has 200 calories with five grams of protein.

What should come as no surprise is that this bar looks the same as all the other ORGANIC Pure bars.  It's soft and pliable and is a mix of a date puree with an internal mix of nuts and dried fruits.  In the case of this bar, the internal mix includes chunks of dried apple and walnuts.  The notable difference about this bar is that it includes cinnamon and actually smells quite strongly of that cinnamon.  The other bars did not have that component, so I knew going in that I was going to be getting something while appearing to be the same kind of thing, would actually be quite different from the others.

As I took my first bite, the mouthfeel of this was the same as all the other Pure bars.  It was soft and chewy from both the dates and dried apples with the occasional grainy crunch provided by the walnuts that were in the mix.  What was different about this was that the cinnamon presence in this was incredibly potent and actually brought quite a bit of heat to the table.  It was heat that I wasn't expecting, so it was a total surprise that provided an interesting experience and one that almost turned me off of this bar.  But, I like cinnamon, so the fact that I'm in that cinnamon liking camp probably saved this one.  As for the apple and walnut flavor, the apple flavor was very faint and really only came in at the end of each bite as a sweet, semi-acidic taste and the walnut flavor was absent, which isn't particularly surprising since that is a nut that can tend to get overpowered.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can stand the heat, so to speak, so the heat of the cinnamon was not enough to turn me off of this bar.  I'll give this a BUY IT rating, but take it with fair warning that if you aren't particularly attuned to cinnamon, you are probably not going to enjoy this bar.  If you do like cinnamon, this one would be right up your alley.

BUY IT!!
