Review: Premier Protein Yogurt Peanut Crunch Bar

Despite the fact that I've reviewed plenty of hardcore protein bars on this blog, some of which have even been Premier Protein bars, I've got to admit that I'm not that big of a fan of them.  Most of them just taste too fake and aren't appetizing at all.  Still, when Kroger offers a free product via their web app, I can resist picking it up, even if it is a dreaded hardcore protein bar.  That leads me to today's review of this Premier Protein Yogurt Peanut Crunch Bar.  This behemoth of a protein bar clocks in at 2.5 ounces and has 290 calories with thirty grams of protein.

Premier's website describes this as "Crunchy, creamy and a little nutty."  Okay then.  Anyway, the bar itself is coated with a layer of yogurt and within the bar is the standard protein/soy mix that is mixed with peanut butter.  It's not a lot to look at and it really isn't a lot to smell either, because it has that manufactured smell to it that I've grown to severely distrust and would almost go so far as to describe it as gross.  This bar was also rock hard, so with the smell and the fact that this was rock hard, it was not exactly off to a great start.

Biting into this was kind of like biting into a calcified piece of styrofoam.  Not exactly appetizing.  Once I was able to finally break the barrier, so to speak, I was met with the yogurt coating and that basically had not taste.  After that was the internal peanut butter and while it had taste, it was very bland.  It had no sweetness whatsoever and really only reminded me of a thick peanut butter.  Not necessarily a bad thing since it did have some peanut butter flavor, but not a good thing either, because it was about as boring of a peanut butter flavor as I could have ever imagined.  Outside of that, there's not a lot else to say about this bar because all it brought to me was sheer boredom and that boredom only led me to finish about half of the bar before the remaining half met the garbage can.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This bar was boring and nothing about it was memorable, so I've got to give it a FLY BY IT rating.  I guess there might be something here if you are in serious need of a peanut butter fix, but I only think that would provide some sort of very minimal relief to that fix.  There's nothing else here, so it's probably best to just let this one sit on the shelf if you see it in your store.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. Thank god I stumbled upon this Review before I purchased a box of this stuff! It's hard to pass up Kroger sales but it's harder to throw away money. Thanks for the heads up.
