Review: Dannon Light & Fit Pineapple Greek Yogurt

It kind of amuses me how much I've grown to truly like yogurt as a result of this blog, specifically Greek yogurt.  It's that increasing affection for yogurt that has caused me to start picking up flavors that I'd generally stay away from and the subject of today's addition to the Dannon Light & Fit review catalog is something that I would typically stay away from because I'm not the world's biggest fan of pineapple.  That said, I was still willing to grab this 5.3 ounce cup of Dannon Light & Fit Pineapple Greek Yogurt on sale for $1.00 at Kroger.  As the label on the container plainly states above, this one comes in at 80 calories and has two times the protein at twelve grams of protein.

The composition of this is pretty simple.  It's fruit on the bottom that includes decent sized chunks of pineapple mixed within what I'll call a pineapple marmalade that preserves those chunks of pineapple.  On top of that is a plain Greek yogurt and really that's it.  I guess I could say that the pineapples have that strong citrus smell, so there's no mistaking what is in this.

In terms of the cup of yogurt itself, I tasted both individually at first.  The yogurt was standard stuff...it was thick and creamy and had a slight tang to it.  The pineapple chunks and marmalade definitely had a sweet and tangy smell and what was moderately surprising was that it was very strong.  It was so strong in fact that despite the fact that I've been trying to become more accepting of pineapples in general, it might have even been a bit too much for me.  Still, I had to taste them together to see if the flavors played well off of each other.  After my first spoonful, I can say that they really retained their unique qualities, which is different than most of these fruit on the bottom yogurts.  Usually one flavor wins or they both cancel each other out, but in the case of this cup, I would not only say that both retained their flavor, but the power of the pineapple flavor got even stronger and brought some major bite to each spoonful, which is something I was not expecting.  Basically, this ended up being container of thick and creamy yogurt with the occasional pineapple chunk to break up the texture and all in all, had alternating flavors of sweet, tart and tang.

Buy It or Fly By It?  A pineapple lover might find this to be fun, but being that I'm merely a pineapple acceptor and not lover, I can't give this a positive rating and it ends up as a FLY BY IT for me.  Again, that's just personal preference and maybe someone else would have a different experience with this, but I know that I won't be grabbing this one again.

FLY BY IT!!
