Review: Kellogg's Special K Nourish Dark Chocolate Nut Delight Bar

With each passing day, it amuses me even more that the mainstream companies are entering the foray of the "nutrition" bar market.  Kellogg's Special K has several bars already out there that I've hit on in reviews, but they've started pushing their "Nourish" line of products and by expanding upon that line, they've introduced this Kellogg's Special K Nourish Dark Chocolate Nut Delight Bar that I picked up at Kroger for $1.25.  It checks in at 1.58 ounces with 180 calories and eight grams of protein.

Since there was a picture of this bar on the wrapper, I can't say that I was particularly surprised by how it looked.  It was a granola bar mixed with nuts and dark chocolate.  There was dark chocolate coating on the bottom and top of the bar and there was also dark chocolate in the granola mix.  Also in that mix were the aforementioned nuts, which included peanuts, cashews and some healthily sized almonds.  All in all, it was an impressive looking bar with a slight nutty and chocolatey smell and the biggest positive (for me) was that the dark chocolate smell was mild and not offensive like some dark chocolate smells can be.

As I took a bite of this, there several conflicting flavors and textures.  First, there was the soft granola mix that was chewy.  Then there was the popping almonds and collection of other nuts that brought a crunchy texture and a salty and nutty flavor.  The dark chocolate then coated the granola and nuts with a dense, but not sweet consistency.  What was even more wonderful was that it wasn't a foul flavor either, which was nice considering my repeated and annoying utterances about dark chocolate.  Honestly, between chocolate, chewiness, nuttiness and everything else, this bar really nailed it with it's mostly simple recipe.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I always question products that put "Delight" into the name, but in this instance, I don't think it was much of a stretch.  This, while not earth shattering, was definitely a tasty bar that I thoroughly enjoyed eating and it gets a BUY IT rating.  It was the alternating and varying flavor profiles that made this a fun bar to work my way though.  If you are looking for nourishment (can't deprive myself of writing a cheesy line), then this bar would be a good source for that.

BUY IT!!
