Review: Kashi GOLEAN Crunchy! Chocolate Almond Bar

Love 'em, hate 'em, yada, yada, yada...I've written this same intro about my tumultuous history with Kashi reviews before.  So, in lieu of writing the same intro again, I'll just hop right into the review of this Kashi GOLEAN Crunchy! Chocolate Almond Bar that I picked up on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  It is 1.59 ounces and has eight grams of protein and five grams of fiber.  Basically, that means that it's going to fill you up and eventually empty you out.  Fun times.

As you can see, there's not a lot of excitement when looking at this bar.  It's got a thick chocolate base which was mildly sweet smelling that is topped with a typical rice crisp mix that was interspersed with the occasional tiny almond shard.  And when I say tiny, I mean tiny because I really did have to take an extremely close look to find any of them.  Outside of that, there's not a whole lot of anything else to say about this other than the fact that there is some chocolate powder mixed in with the rice crisp to give it a darker color and everything is bound together by the typical nutrition bar syrups that are found in almost all bars.

When I took a bit of this, I was as bored by its taste as I was by its visual appearance.  The thick chocolate did coat the rice crisp mix well, but its taste wasn't overly sweet or even overly powerful for that matter.  It was just blah.  The rice crisp mix did have some additional chocolate flavor, but again, it was just boring.  One thing of note about this rice crisp mix is that I expected it to be crunchy based on the name of the bar.  It definitely was not that and was in fact chewy.  False advertising there, but for something this boring, I didn't really care.  As for the named almonds in the bar, they were nowhere to be found or tasted as I was chewing through this.  I clearly knew they were in the mix based on my visual examination, but in terms of flavor or crunch, they were a no-show.  That's too bad too because chocolate covered almonds are awesome and if this bar could have somehow found a way to replicate that in bar form, this would have been a winner.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't say I remember a whole lot about this bar other than the fact that it gave me something to chew on for a minute or two.  Outside of that, there was nothing here that would get me to go back and I would recommend the same to anyone that saw this, so it clearly gets a FLY BY IT rating.  It's not because it is a bad bar, it's just because it is such a boring bar.  Because of that, stay away unless you are looking for some boredom to slow down a hectic life.

FLY BY IT!!
