Review: CLIF Mojo Peanut Butter Pretzel Sweet & Salty Trail Mix Bar

I was just looking through the CLIF bar review archives here on the blog and just say that I haven't reviewed a CLIF Mojo bar since July 2012.  It's not like I've been avoiding them, but I just haven't seen any different flavors available in my stores until recently when I saw two different flavors available and snatched them up for some long absent Mojo reviews.  First up is this CLIF Mojo Peanut Butter Pretzel Sweet & Salty Trail Mix Bar that I picked up at Kroger on sale for $1.00.  It weighs 1.6 ounces, has 190 calories and nine grams of protein.  It's also 70% organic, so all you tree huggers out there can feel warm and fuzzy about this one.

With clear packaging, there isn't any great mystery as to what this bar looks like but I'll describe it anyway.  The bar has a peanut butter base and then that same peanut butter is used to bind the entire bar together.  What is being bound together is the typical soy/rice crisp mix, some peanut chunks, some peanut butter chips (YUM!) and also some peanut butter filled pretzels.  Yep, that's right...not only did CLIF used the very underrated peanut butter chips, which I LOVE, they also went the extra peanut butter mile and used peanut butter filled pretzels.  I've got to admit, that's freaking incredible and I give big Kudos to CLIF for that one.

So, with all that peanut butter spread everywhere throughout the bar, it should come as no surprise that this bar tastes pretty much like peanut butter all the way.  It's a sweet and also hearty/thick peanut butter that is downright delicious.  I prefer my peanut butter especially sweet and while this was not like that, it was pretty close.  What made this fun was the peanut butter chips, which not only brought additional peanut butter flavor, but also melted in your mouth to provide a decadent peanut butter coating to the rice crisp and pretzel mix.  Frankly, that was awesome.  As for the salty component of the bar, that came from the pretzels and that salt taste did not really hit my taste buds until the back end of each bite.  While those pretzels were soft, which was disappointing, the bar did have some minimal crunch that was brought to the table by the small peanut chunks that were spread intermittently throughout the bar.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This bar is all peanut butter, all the time and if you are looking for a fix, you are going to get it from this bar.  I needed a fix and it was that delicious peanut butter that filled my fix and leads me to give this a BUY IT rating.  There's only a touch of the salty component in here and it's mostly sweet, but that's okay because this bar is still a success by CLIF.  Since I like to complain and excel at doing it, I do have one minor gripe about this bar:  had it contained chocolate in some form (perhaps as a base or coating of the entire bar), this bar would have been taken to the stratosphere of awesomeness.  Instead, it just scrapes on the very good stratosphere, but that is more than okay.

BUY IT!!
