Review: Skinny Cow Slimited Editions White Mint Cookie Shake-Stirs Shake

Sometimes I wonder if food companies operate like automobile companies in the respect that they release a bunch of new products at once like it is a new product year.  Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but it's been something that I've been wondering recently as I've been seeing a ton of products in my grocery stores carrying the new tagline.  Skinny Cow is one of those that has released a lot of new products and since curiosity killed the cat and it will eventually kill me, I picked up this Skinny Cow Slimited Editions White Mint Cookie Shake-Stirs Shake to add to my growing Skinny Cow review archive.  I picked this up at Kroger for $1.35 and this one comes in at 8.1 ounces for the entire shake and is 190 calories minus the milk add in and is 220 calories (5 points on the WeightWatchers PointsPlus scale) once you add in the milk to the shake.  I know how milk tastes, so for the purposes of this review, I'm only going to take a look at the actual product that Skinny Cow made in order to get an accurate gauge of how this tastes.

Skinny Cow describes this as "Low-fat mint ice cream mixed with chocolatey cookie crumbles" and I can definitely confirm that the ice cream did smell like mint and that there were a lot of cookie crumbles in the shake.  In fact, I was surprised by how many cookie crumbles were in there and for that, Skinny Cow gets kudos.  As for the mint ice cream itself, it was white and smelled very faintly of mint.  Based on its smell, I wasn't holding out hope of their being a strong mint flavor.

It's a good thing that I wasn't hoping or expecting strong mint flavor, because it certainly was not that.  It was more of an afterthought and barely showed itself.  It makes me think that once you pour milk into this and stir it up, that the mint flavor would get completely drowned out by the milk and basically make this a chocolate cookie crumble shake.  I won't waste a lot of time describing the ample cookie crumbles because they were pretty much what you'd expect...chocolate and crunchy (minus milk).  Once you add in the milk, I'm sure that these get soggy and it's pretty much just like dipping your Oreo cookies into milk, which always has been and always will be awesome.

Buy It or Fly By It?  When thinking about this shake, the ultimate determination only comes down to two things.  First, how many cookie crumbles were there?  There were plenty, so that gets a more than passing great.  Second, how did the white mint ice cream taste?  In that respect, the weak and almost non-existent flavor of that ice cream fails in its attempt to deliver and since in my mind, the ice cream is what makes or breaks this, that means that this gets a FLY BY IT rating.  In general, this is okay if you are not looking for a mint ice cream, but if you are, this is a failure and not worth a purchase.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. You're supposed to mix it with milk though. They don't intend for you to eat the product as is.
