Review: Quaker Popped Caramel Corn Rice Snacks

Editor's Note:  While the product has stayed the same, Quaker now markets these under a different named and they are now called "Quaker Popped Rice Snacks." The review below applies the same.

When I peruse the Quaker Oats Products website, I see that I've tried all but one of their flavors (there are fifteen of them on the site; I've tried one that is not listed on the site), so you are going to be seeing a lot more of these reviews on the blog.  But hey, this site is about getting review content out there for the general public, right?  Well, that's at least what I tell myself.  Anyway, next in the series of Quaker Quakes rice snacks are the Caramel Corn Quakes variety.  As I've said on this site before, I love Caramel, so this one seems like it would be right in my wheelhouse.  At 110 calories per serving (about three servings per bag), it's not a belt buster either.  These were purchased on sale at Meijer for around $1.00.

Seeing the picture above (poor lighting, so I'll describe it), these Quakes had a somewhat hard and crunchy texture.  I would even describe it using a word that doesn't apply to rice snacks at all:  meaty.  What I mean by "meaty" is that you could tell that these definitely had some density to them.  The outside had a shiny coating, which was obviously the caramel coating that they had melted on the the Quakes.

Getting past the physical appearance, the taste of these things was just wonderful.  The caramel taste is strong, but not overpowering.  Frankly, these taste just like caramel corn (their namesake) except in a rice snack form.  They are crunchy and have the wonderful sweetness that you'd expect if you were buying caramel corn at your local county fair.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Definitely BUY IT.  I've purchased these many times before this review and I'll purchase them many times after this review as well.  Honestly, I think this is my favorite of all the Quakes flavors.  The thing that makes these wonderful is that you can eat them just plain or you can mix them with your favorite dip or spread (I mix them with Walden Farms dips) and you won't lose anyway you look at it.

BUY IT!!
Now, I've just got to go out and find that elusive Rosemary and Toasted Garlic flavored Quakes that have evaded me for so long so I can hit for the cycle on Quakes, so to speak.

  1. I agree, these are definitely way better tasting than I ever anticipated. My 8 year old loves them also, which is a bonus. Have you tried the Blueberry flavor yet? (I think it was blueberry...or a berry flavor of some sort) Those were also good. Also tried the Creme Brulee and Chili flavored, good, not as good as the carmel corn though.

    1. I have had the Wild Blueberry flavor and have written a review (it's in the LONG queue), so you'll see the review eventually!
