Review: Yoplait Greek 100 Whips! Salted Caramel Greek Yogurt Mousse

These Whips! products have been popping up in the dairy case at my local grocery stores with increasing frequency and I've been knocking the off with reviews as they've been popping up.  Today's review is of a new flavor that has popped into the case (and Yoplait's product line) in this single serving cup of Yoplait Greek 100 Whips! Salted Caramel Greek Yogurt Mousse.  I was able to get this one at Marsh as a freebie (lucky me!), but it would ordinarily be in the $1.00ish range.  The cup itself is a fluffy 4.0 ounces (same size cup as the other Greek yogurt products, but lighter contents) and contains 100 calories and nine grams of protein.

Having had these Whips! products before, I was fully aware of what this would be like.  It's a solid-colored (light brown/tan in this case) Greek yogurt mousse that is very airy and fluffy.  This container was no different.  It also smelled of caramel, so in terms of what I was expecting and needing, this one fit the bill.  Other than that, there's nothing else to really report.

My initial taste of this provided me of a quick hit of tart like I would expect in Greek yogurt, but that dissipated quickly.  After that, I got hit with a smooth taste of caramel that was neither to sweet or too "burnt."  It actually leaned toward sweet, but only barely.  What was interesting was that while the caramel flavor was definitely noticeable and pleasing, there was no real taste of the salted portion of this, which was kind of interesting.  What this ended up being, at least according to my taste buds, was a Greek-flavored caramel yogurt.  As for texture, it was airy and light like I'd expect a mousse to be.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I was a little leery of this going in because of the salted part of this.  I've had some salted caramel foods that were really bad, but this one was not that.  Since the salt was a minimal, if almost non-existent, part of this cup, this was basically just a semi-sweet caramel yogurt that I very much enjoyed.  For that, it easily gets a BUY IT rating.  This is a nice new addition to the product offering catalog and once it makes its way onto your local shelves, it's worth grabbing.

BUY IT!!

  1. I love salted caramel, but I hated this. Mainly due to the texture, too light and fluffy. It was like eating some sort of weird packing material. I've tried other flavors and same outcome. The regular Yoplait whips are much better.

  2. Crazy Food Dude, If this was a one-time tasting of this flavor, perhaps you should try it again. I love salted caramel frozen yogurt so I was excited to try this whipped yogurt product. My first impression was that it imparts more of a coffee flavor than caramel. However, the aftertaste was most unappealing. I tasted a strong licorice like flavor and the unpleasant aftertaste lasted at least 5 minutes from that one spoonful. Licorice flavored yogurt, no thanks! I bought two containers and will return one to the store. Enjoyed your blog as a first time reader.
