Review: Zone Perfect Perfectly Simple Peppermint Bark Bar

I find it exponentially amusing that even nutrition bar manufacturers get into the seasonal spirit and release limited edition products that are based on the season.  Zone Perfect has already done it once with a pumpkin-flavored bar that I reviewed previously, but now they are going with a peppermint-flavored bar that is focused on the...well, let's just say December traditions (call that my Starbucks red cup play).  Anyway, I picked up this seasonally influenced and limited edition Zone Perfect Perfectly Simple Peppermint Bark Bar at Kroger for $1.00.  It checks in at 1.41 ounces and has a modest 180 calories with ten grams of protein.  It's also gluten free.

When I took this out of the wrapper, it was immediately apparent that Zone Perfect was not going to cheat me on either of the named ingredients as there were ample pieces of peppermint candy and chocolate bark mixed in with this surprisingly pliable bar.  I'd almost say that it had the consistency of a brownie.  I expected something much more solid.  What I also didn't expect was that there'd be white chocolate chunks mixed in with the peppermint and that was a big win for me since I love me some white chocolate.  Anyway, the bar definitely smelled of that ample peppermint and chocolate, so from an presentation perspective, I've got to say that Zone Perfect really, really impressed me.

I took my first bite and all I could say was YUM.  The decadence of chocolate in being both rich and sweet mixed in with the fresh and potent taste of peppermint.  It was a powerful and delicious combination.  Like I mentioned previously, the bar was surprisingly soft, so that made it easy to chew through and when I encountered the peppermint chunks, they brought some nice crunch.  Encountering the white chocolate chunks brought some nice melting and coating qualities as well.  All of this mixed together was quite a reminder of the December traditions, if I say so myself.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Zone Perfect did an outstanding job with this, so it gets a BUY IT rating from me.  After finishing this bar, I was sad because I wished I had more.  If I had another one nearby, I probably would have demolished it immediately.  Instead, I have to longingly yearn for one as I type this review and recall the very positive eating experience.

BUY IT!!

  1. You took the words right out of my mouth. The local Ralphs had them in the clearance section for 29 cents, so I took the last four on the shelf. I figured if I didn't like them it wouldn't have broken my bank and someone at work would take them because who doesn't like anything that's free? Well.....I ate that thing and was surprised that it was as decadent as it was, and also surprised that it was actually good for me. I would liken it to a brownie/candy bar, but it was better than both of those things to me. Now I am trying to find out where I can buy them online, which is how I ended up here. :-)
