Review: Kozy Shack Indulgent Recipe Chocolate Truffle Pudding Cups

I've reviewed Kozy Shack puddings on this blog previously, but I mostly stay away from them because they don't have enough new products and/or I feel that they cost too much.  That's kept me away from them for over two years.  Anyway, their products reside right next to the JELL-O pudding cups in the refrigerator case at Kroger and recently, I noticed that have a new line of puddings called "Indulgent Recipe" focusing on dessert and exotic-type flavors.  I had a digital coupon, so I decided to grab a four pack of this Kozy Shack Indulgent Recipe Chocolate Truffle Pudding Cups.  Can't remember the exact price, but I think the coupon knocked it down to about $2.25.  Each cup in the package comes in at 3.75 ounces and has 200 calories, so it's not a huge container and it's not a diet food.  Clearly, this is indulgent and a "Decadent Dessert Pudding", or so they say.

This might be in contention for the shortest description ever because when I opened this up, it was pure chocolate.  Based on the name truffle, I was expecting some truffle chunks or something like that, but it was just very thick chocolate pudding and that's it.  It smelled nicely of strong chocolate, but besides that I really can't think of anything else to say here other than the name intrigued me, but the presentation disappointed me.

So after that disappointing presentation, I dove in with my spoon and what I got was a pudding that had a very rich chocolate flavor.  It was sweet, but not overly sweet and it was very dense.  For a chocolate pudding lover, this is chocolate pudding in its purest form.  I would even go so far as to agree with Kozy Shack as to say that this was so rich and chocolatey that it was indulgent.  That's as far as I'll go though because that's as far as they went.  There's nothing else here.

Buy It or Fly By It?  On the Kozy Shack product page for this, they described this using three words:  "Delectable.  Tantalizing.  Scrumptious."  They then stated that those were fancy words to describe that this was really, really good.  I will say that it was good and the chocolate flavor was strong and delicious, but I have to go against flavor on this one because the price is just too high for something that is so basic.  I, like many other consumers, are price conscious and this product is just not an economical buy for what you are getting, so it gets a FLY BY IT rating.  In terms of taste, this is more than solid but in the end, it just gets done in by its price.  That doesn't happen often on this blog, but this is one of those times.  If the price doesn't bother you or you see this on special, it's certainly worth a try.

FLY BY IT!!
