Review: Pure Organic Cherry Cashew Bar

My first experience with Pure's line of organic bars was so positive and delicious that I dove right into trying out another one the day after trying out the first.  That eagerness leads me to today's review of this Pure Organic Cherry Cashew Bar.  Like the last, I picked this one up on sale at Meijer for $1.67 and it comes in at 1.7 ounces with 190 calories and six grams of protein.  In addition to being organic, it's also gluten fee and vegan, so I know my co-worker (mentioned in my previous Pure post) would be right in line for this one too.

Having had one of these before, I was fully aware that this would look like a Larabar coming out of that wrapper and as you can see, it certainly did that.  Like a Larabar, the base of this bar is a date puree.  Within that base is a smattering of dried cherries, solid-sized cashews, almonds and walnuts.  Also within the mix is the ever present (for Pure) cashew butter and also some lemon juice concentrate.  The bar had a mild smell of cherry too, so from a physical perspective, this one was delivering.

From a taste perspective, it delivered as well, although not the way that I would have expected.  The cherry flavor was present and it was pretty much as I'd expect from cherries.  Sweet, tangy and delicious.  One thing I didn't expect was the lemon juice concentrate to have so much zing at the end of each bite.  It was almost sinus clearing, so that was interesting but not all that bad in the grand scheme of things.  What was also interesting, although I sort of expected it based on my last experience, was the power of the flavor of the walnuts in this bar.  It actually overpowered the cashews, which is not what I would have expected.  To be honest, there really wasn't any cashew flavor in this at all.  While not a horrible thing, I would have liked there to be a bit more cashew flavor since it is one of my favorite nuts.  Otherwise, this bar was soft and chewy with some grainy nut texture mixed in, which once again makes it just like a Larabar.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While I didn't come out of this experience nearly as excited as I was after my first Pure bar experience, this was still a good tasting and for that, it gets a BUY IT rating.  I am starting to think that as I make my way through these, I'm going to have a positive experience each time and for that, I will be eternally grateful.

BUY IT!!
