Review: Premier Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar

I can honestly say that I was stunned by what a positive experience my first Premier Protein bar review gave me.  The bar itself was almost like an Andes candy and I enjoyed it quite a bit.  So, with that positive experience on my mind, I dug into this Premier Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar with hopes for more of the same.  I picked this one up at Kroger on sale for $1.33 and it comes in at a bulky 2.5 ounces with a big load of 290 calories and a hulking thirty grams of protein.

There's not a lot of prettiness to this bulky bar.  It's a big block of soy crisp that is mixed with peanut butter and then the whole package is encased in chocolate.  That's about it for the visual package.  The olfactory package includes a smell of peanut butter that seemed like it was a bit off to me.  I would go so far to say that it almost had a metallic smell, so that wasn't exactly encouraging to me before I took  my first bite.

After I took my first bite, I can't say that I was particularly encouraged either.  The bar itself was quite crunchy and chewy, so if that is something that you are looking for in a bar, then you'll find this enjoyable.  If you are looking for good flavor, I'm not sure that you are going to be overly impressed as this was pretty bland.  The peanut butter definitely had some taste, but it was a very basic, non-sweet and hearty peanut butter flavor.  The chocolate itself had essentially no flavor, so that was quite discouraging.  All the chocolate really did was coat the bar and melt in my mouth over the top of the peanut butter and soy crisp.  Outside of that, there wasn't a whole lot going on.

Buy It or Fly By It?  After my first positive Premier Protein experience, this one was a major letdown because it led me to sheer boredom.  For that boredom factor, I've got to give this a FLY BY IT rating.  The fact that the chocolate was basically flavorless and the peanut butter was bland did not help the situation any, so I guess this classic flavor combination did not work well for Premier Protein in this instance.

FLY BY IT!!
