Review: Kellogg's Special K Nourish Lemon Twist Bar

I, like most people, enjoy some nourishment from time-to-time so that makes the subject of today's review right up my alley.  My gosh...I think my introductions are getting cheesier with each passing day, but sometimes it's tough to come up with something fresh for each individual post.  So, I'll be adding to my Kellogg's Special K review catalog with today's review of this Kellogg's Special K Nourish Lemon Twist Bar.  I picked this one up at Kroger for $1.33 and the bar itself is 1.58 ounces with 160 calories and eight grams of protein.

Even thought there's a picture of this bar on the wrapper, I've got to say that I was moderately surprised by this when I opened it up.  What surprised me was the size of the oat pieces in the granola and quinoa mix.  I knew they'd be there, but I didn't expect whole oat pieces.  What didn't surprise me was that there were lemon bits and lemon swirl in the mix because I could obviously see those on the wrapper and expected them.  The bar itself had a slight and pleasing citrus smell of lemon mixed with that bread-like grain smell to it too, so that was nice.  It was also quite soft and pliable too, which was neither here nor there, but just an observation.

Biting into this was kind of fun as it was soft and chewy, kind of like a fresh oatmeal cookie.  It had a bit of that flavor too, although the fruit in this case was a combination of lemon and orange peel (I had to read the ingredient list to find that one out).  At first bite, this was primarily oat and quinoa flavor but then that citrus flavor came on quite strong and actually kind of slapped me unexpectedly in the face.  It was fine in the overall scheme of things, but that flavor from the bits and the swirl definitely announced its presence.  As for the rest of the bar, there was an occasional pop from the soy crisps in the granola mix, but it wasn't prevalent enough for me to give it much more than a passing mention.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While the citrus flavor was substantially stronger than anything I would have ever expected, I was okay with it and give this a BUY IT rating.  That said, if you aren't prepared for that flavor, you might not like this at all.  If you are prepared and do enjoy citrus flavor, then grab this by all means because it is pretty tasty in the end.

BUY IT!!
