In the history of this blog, I've touched on several veggie burgers but all of them up to this point have been MorningStar Farms products. Today will be my first "adventure" into Boca Burgers territory as I take a look at this Boca Bruschetta Tomato Basil Parmesan Veggie Patties that I picked up as a box of four veggie burgers at Kroger for $3.00. Each patty comes in at 71 grams and has 90 calories with a solid thirteen grams of protein. It's also only two Weight Watchers points per serving.
As you can see, these burgers have a lighter coloring. That's something that I probably didn't expect. That said, you can still see the shards of tomatoes and basil spread throughout the patty. There was a very slight hint of Parmesan cheese smell too, so that was a nice little mix. To me, this almost seems like a plate of spaghetti (well, at least the sauce) piled into a patty form. And since I have loved spaghetti (and Italian flavors) since my days as a very young Crazy Food Dude, I was quite anxious to jump in and try this out.
As I bit into the patty, I could definitely taste that basil front and center. The roasted tomatoes that were part of the bruschetta mix were obviously noticeable too, but not that overpowering. The Parmesan cheese brought a hint of saltiness to the package, but not a real cheesy flavor or chew component to the entire package. As for the rest of the patty, it was just a typical, but tasty, veggie burger that had a slight hint of of heat to it from the paprika that was also included as a spice in the ingredients.
Buy It or Fly By It? While this was just a mild twist on a typical veggie burger, it was still a good one that I found enjoyable, so it gets a BUY IT rating. While there are certainly better ways to devour Italian flavor through various products, this one is definitely an option if you are feeling like devouring that flavor profile in burger patty form.
