Review: Chef Robert Irvine's FortiFX Fit Crunch Peanut Butter Protein Bar

I can't remember if I've covered on this blog before how much I love watching the Food Network.  I watch it constantly, almost to the point that it is comical.  So, when I saw a free new product offering from one of my favorite Food Network personalities available on the web, I knew I had to request a sample so that I could try it out for the blog.  So, the trusty United States Postal Service delivered me this Chef Robert Irvine's FortiFX Fit Crunch Peanut Butter Protein Bar to my house for today's review.  This bar is sample-sized but it comes in at 1.62 ounces with 190 calories and has sixteen grams of protein.

What's interesting about these bars is that they are actually baked and manufactured at a bakery fittingly named Bakery Barn.  I guess a chef-produced product truly should be cooked/baked instead of just manufactured, so that is a good thing.  Anyway, this is a chocolate encased bar with peanut butter swirls on top.  Within the bar is a peanut butter shell that is almost brittle-like that is surrounding the interior baked biscuit that contains all the protein (okay, the peanut butter has some too).  There are also several large peanut chunks melted into the peanut butter brittle shell.  So, from it's appearances alone, this bar definitely looked like something prepared by a world renowned chef and I wouldn't expect anything less from Robert.

As I took my first bite of this, I was loving the peanut butter brittle shell as it provided a nice snap and then quickly melted together with the melting chocolate and peanut butter of the exterior of the bar.  It was a mix of sweetness with the peanut butter taking the forefront in terms of flavor against the chocolate.  The peant pieces spread throughout also provided some hard crunch to go along with the brittle crunch of the peanut butter brittle.  The baked portion of the bar was interesting though.  Part of it had cracker-like crunch, which was nice.  The other part of it had that gummy protein mouthfeel that I've come to find in several protein-specific bars throughout the myriad of reviews that I've banged out for this blog.  Despite the weirdness of that gummy texture in the "baked" portion of the bar, the taste of the other ingredients in this more than made up for that weirdness and everything ended up wonderful in the end.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I'm just going to come out and say it, this bar was incredibly delicious and gets a BUY IT rating.  I guess I should be surprised that I enjoyed this so much though because I also thoroughly enjoy Robert's television shows, so it would only be natural that I'd enjoy his food or protein bars, right?  I guess it doesn't always work that way, but in the case of this delicious peanut butter and chocolate treat, it certainly does.

BUY IT!!

  1. "Dinner: Impossible" used to be my favorite show on the Food Network... when I saw this review I thought "Robert Irvine has a line of protein bars now? Why didn't I know about this, and where can I find them?!" Judging from this review, sounds like the quality is high, which is great to hear (sometimes you never know what to expect from celebrity-endorsed products).

    1. I know you can buy them through the website, but I also know they are signing deals to be sold in certain retail stores (Walmart, I think), so I'd keep checking their website for details.
