Review: New Orleans Ice Cream Company Mint Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream

I'm going to come out and say it...mint ice cream is just about my least favorite ice cream in the world.  With that said, I can't turn down free ice cream and since New Orleans Ice Cream Company generously sent me several pints to review, I'm led to review this pint of New Orleans Ice Cream Company Mint Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream.  One thing I will note is that for each pint of this sold, New Orleans Ice Cream Company donates a portion of the proceeds to the Make It Right Foundation to help re-build the Lower 9th Ward of the city after the Hurricane Katrina disaster.  Pretty cool.  Anyway, a pint of this has four half-cup servings and each serving has 250 calories per serving.

As you can see (hopefully), this pint has a solid mint ice cream base with a typical green hue as you'd expect from mint ice cream.  Interwoven with the mint ice cream are several broken up chocolate cookie pieces (think the cookie part of an Oreo) and also some small chocolate flakes.  These cookie pieces are spread fairly well throughout the pint, so they definitely are not shorting you on that.  In terms of smell, the smell of mint is remarkably tame and I certainly appreciated that. If I'm going to eat mint ice cream, I want it to be tame and not make me feel like I just brushed my teeth.

After my first spoonful, not only did I not feel like I had just brushed my teeth, but I actually liked what I got. Along the same lines of the tame smell, the mint flavoring was quite tame as well.  You could clearly tell it was mint, but it was nothing that was going to make your breath minty fresh and I absolutely appreciated that.  The chocolate cookies tasted and did pretty much what you'd expect of them, meaning that they tasted like chocolate cookies and they also added some nice crunch to break up the texture of the ice cream.  The chocolate flakes also added a bit more chocolate flavor to the mix as well and it worked perfectly to counteract the mint ice cream.

Buy It or Fly By It?  All in all, I can't say there was anything bad about this pint despite the fact that I so desperately wanted to say that going in because of my general dislike of mint ice cream.  Despite that pre-disposed dislike, New Orleans Ice Cream Company won me over with this pint and I have to give it a BUY IT rating.  It's strong enough of a flavor to let you know you are definitely eating mint ice cream, but it's tame enough not to smack you in the face and scream "YOU ARE EATING MINT ICE CREAM!"  Definitely the way I prefer it.

BUY IT!!

    1. It certainly was generous and I was glad they turned me on to some new products to try. It certainly was fun, in most instances.
