In the long list of Quaker Chewy granola bar flavor reviews, we come to the next flavor in the series, the Low Fat S'mores granola bar. I don't have an individual price as I picked it up as part of a variety pack, but this one is 0.84 ounces, 90 calories and as the name implies, is meant to simulate the old campfire treat of graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate. Of course, since this is a granola bar, they've substituted out the graham cracker for granola mix, but I won't hold that against them.
As you can see, this one is the same size as any other Quaker Chewy bar. What makes this one "S'mores" is that it has little pellets of hardened marshmallow and chocolate chips spread throughout the bar. Outside of that, there's not a whole lot worth writing (or reading) about here, so I won't waste any more of my or your time.
In terms of taste, I can't really say there are any surprises here. The chocolate chips are sweet and chocolatey as you'd expect them to be, the marshmallows are also sweet and have that creamy (well, as creamy as you can be when you are in pellet form) of a marshmallow and the granola is just like the rest of the Quaker granola. It's chewy and flavorful. If I had to come up with a one word description for this bar, I would say "sweet" because this one definitely is. Since it is pattered after a sweet campfire treat, it fills that role perfectly. The loss of the graham cracker flavor is disappointing, but the Quaker granola does a fine job serving as an acceptable substitute.
Buy It or Fly By It? Definitely BUY IT. This is one of Quaker Chewy's better flavors and if you like S'mores and/or sweets, you should definitely give this a run. The strong chocolate and marshmallow flavors make will make you think you are enjoying a S'more and sitting by the fire no matter where you are and that is never a bad thing.

When I was growing up, these were my favorite kind of granola bar.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably still my favorite of the Quaker Chewy bars.
S'mores tastes like burning campfire... can't stand them. PB&Chocolate on the other hand I absolutely love. I Ran out of PB&C and decided to eat a "Chocolate Chunk". Opened it and took a bite and thought... why does this taste so nasty? Looked at it closer and it had the white "marshmallow" flecks in it... got the wrapper out of the trash... "Chocolate Chunk"... hmmm... what's going on here...
