Review: Balance Bar Yogurt Honey Peanut Bar

In December, I reviewed the Balance Honey Peanut bar and gave it a Buy It rating.  This time, I'll be looking at a very similar bar to that one.  This Yogurt Honey Peanut bar's only difference is obviously in the name of the bar and on the packaging...this one contains yogurt.  I picked this one up at Meijer for $1.09 and it weighs in at 1.76 ounces and contains 200 calories and fifteen grams of protein.

First thing you notice about this bar even before you take it out of the wrapper is how dense it is.  It seems heavier than it's measured 1.76 ounces and that's neither good or bad, it's just an observation.  As for differences between this and the Honey Peanut bar that I previously reviewed, this one has a thin white vanilla yogurt exterior while the prior bar had a chocolate exterior.  As for the rest of the bar, it is the same.  The interior is a peanut butter mix with honey flavoring added in.

Oddly enough, in the last bar I was able to taste the honey as a strong flavor in the interior of the bar, but this is not the case in this one.  Perhaps because the sweetness of the yogurt and honey cancel each other out?  I don't know.  Regardless, the peanut butter taste is strong in this and it's definitely the most predominant taste in the entire bar.  It's hearty and is both the first and last thing that you taste as you are making your way through this extremely difficult to chew bar.  I will say that it softens up as you go, but the initial chews require some effort.  Like I said with the honey and yogurt flavors though, they kind of cancel each other out and you can't really discern either one.  That's too bad, because sweet honey and cooling yogurt would have been a nice change of pace from the peanut butter.

Buy It or Fly By It?  BUY IT.  It's not a bad bar, but it's also not as good as the regular Honey Peanut bar.  The determining factor in this case is the yogurt and it really doesn't bring as much to the bar as the chocolate did to the Honey Peanut bar.  That said, it's still worth purchasing though because it still is a decent bar.

BUY IT!!

  1. Sounds like a good snack. Perfect to curb those hunger pangs when working for long hours. I dropped Snickers because of this discovery.
