Up next with my review of the fullbar product line is another flavor offering, the Peanut Butter Crunch Bar. This bar is the standard 1.59 ounces and I picked it up on sale at CVS for $1.25. It contains 170 calories, six grams of protein and four grams of fiber. As a quick recap, this purpose of fullbars is that if you eat one of them and drink sixteen ounces of water thirty minutes prior to eating your meal, this bar is supposed to make you feel more full so that you eat less. I kind of doubt that claim, but have to admit, I did not really feel as hungry as usual after the last one of these that I ate, so maybe there is something to this.
This bar looks pretty much like the rest of the fullbars in that it is an airy cereal bar similar in design to Sugar Crisp cereal. The cereal mix is then mixed with peanut chunks (unexpected) and bound together with peanut butter. The whole bar is then topped with a swirl of peanut butter icing. All in all, you are really getting the peanut butter flavor on this one, at least in design.
That design carries over to the taste too, because peanuts/peanut butter is all I tasted. Since the bar is so light and airy, it was felt soft in my mouth as usual, although an occasional crunch was added by one of the peanut chunks. The peanut butter flavor was there, but it was not particularly sweet or strong. If anything, it was somewhat hearty, although it was not particularly powerful. If peanut butter was the flavor they were going for, they got it at least somewhat, but really the only thing I tasted here was the puffy cereal mix and if you name your bar after peanut butter, you'd think that you'd want that to be the primary taste. Regardless, the peanut butter taste that was there just didn't work overall. I hate to say this about something that is flavored like peanut butter, but only having that one note of flavor (outside of the cereal crisp) really didn't work with this bar.
Buy It or Fly By It? FLY BY IT. As I said, the one note flavor of this bar really did not work and that is why it gets a negative rating. If this had some sort of other flavor to counteract the peanut butter flavor like caramel or chocolate (like some of the other fullbars), this one would work. Unfortunately it did not and because of that, I would not recommend this bar to anyone.
