We've been through this before in LUNA reviews...I know I'm not a woman, but that doesn't stop me from trying out these bars, especially when some of them have been so good. Recently, I stumbled across one of my favorite things in the world (free giveaways) on the website FreeStuffTimes.com and saw that there was a giveaway for LUNA's new Peanut Honey Pretzel bar, so I hurriedly signed myself up and a few weeks later, this arrived in the mail. So, I don't have a price since I didn't pay for it, but I do know that it weighs 1.69 ounces, has 190 calories and also nine grams of protein.
As you can see, this bar is like all of the LUNA bars in that it is primarily composed of the LUNA Pro nutrition/protein rice crisp mix with a yogurt base and whatever mix-ins that are applicable to the bar. In this case, the yogurt base was vanilla yogurt, although it had a slightly tan hue to it (I had to read the ingredient list to see that it was intended to be vanilla). On top of the vanilla yogurt base was a rice crisp mix with a plethora of healthy sized peanut butter chips (YUM!) and pretzels. Also in the mix, although not quite as liberally, were some peanut chunks as well. From looks alone, LUNA was definitely not shorting on mix-ins and usually when that happens, the bar turns out to be pretty solid in the taste category. The whole mix was then bound together by a mixture of honey and peanut butter. The honey made the bar sticky to the touch.
Looks were definitely not deceiving here because this bar was flat out delicious. The pretzels brought a salty and crunchy component to the soft and chewy LUNA Pro mix. The peanuts, while not overly distinguishable, also brought a nice added crunch to the bar as well. While the pretzels and peanuts were quite nice, the real star of the show was the peanut butter chips. I've often felt that peanut butter chips are completely underused (not a scientific study, just a general observation on my part) and when I see them in something, I get very excited. My anticipatory excitement was rewarded here because the peanut butter chips in this bar, along with the peanut butter in the LUNA Pro mix, made this bar a strong tasting peanut butter bar. The peanut butter was mostly a hearty taste with only a faint hint of sweetness, although that faint hint of sweetness may have been more of a by-product of the honey than anything else. Regardless, the heartiness and sweetness of the peanut butter and honey mix balanced perfectly with the saltiness and crunch of the pretzels and peanuts. To top it all off the vanilla yogurt base added a nice cooling capper to the heartiness and saltiness of everything else. All in all, this was a winning combination.
Buy It or Fly By It? This was gets an overwhelming BUY IT rating. Frankly, I would recommend this bar to anyone, even males. When I first was getting through this bar, I thought it needed a bit more sweetness from chocolate or something like that, but by the end, my opinion had changed as this bar is perfect as it is. Chocolate makes everything better, but I'm not sure that it would have helped this bar because I'm not sure there was any more room for it to go up. If you see this in the store, snatch it up as quickly as you (man or woman) can and you will definitely have no regrets and might even develop a new addiction in the process because all I've been thinking about since eating this is getting my hands on more of them as quickly as possible.
