Review: Quaker Chewy Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola Bar

Next in line in the seemingly endless supply of reviews of Quaker Chewy granola bars (there will be a time that it runs out...maybe), is the Dark Chocolate Cherry variety.  This one also consists of only 90 calories, so it's in the lower calorie version of their Chewy bars.

First things first:  texture.  This is the standard Quaker Granola that is loaded up with sugars and syrups for binding.  Outside of that, the other player in this is the bits of cherry and dark chocolate that are mixed with the granola to add flavor.  The picture doesn't do it justice since most of the dried cherry bits (think raisin-like consistency) are on the bottom side of the bar, but they are quite sizeable.  As you can see in the picture, there are also a fair amount of large dark chocolate chunks spread throughout as well although oddly enough, they are rectangular in shape as opposed to a "chip" format.  Frankly that surprised me, but ultimately, who really cares?

Taste wise, this one is a big cherry burst.  If you love cherries, you are really going to love this bar because that's all I really tasted..  The dark chocolate was obviously there, but I didn't taste a whole lot of it.  All it really did was add a little crunch texture to the typical granola and the cherry bits.  Being that like cherries, I was okay with this (I once had my mom make me a cherry cake for my birthday when I was very young; for future reference, it is a better idea in theory than how it turns out to actually taste).

Buy It or Fly By It?  If you want variety of flavors and I do, I say BUY IT.  It's a pretty solid flavor in the Chewy bar product line and since I'm a cherry lover, it's a flavor lover I enjoy.  If you don't like cherries, are ambivalent toward them or don't care about variety of flavors, you can probably stay away because there are better Chewy bars out there.
