Review: iSatori Eat-Smart Chocolate Peanut Caramel Crunch Bar

Admittedly, I'm no savant when it comes to protein bars, energy bars and the stuff that you would see in Muscle & Fitness magazine, but when I saw an ad online for a free iSatori Eat-Smart Chocolate Peanut Caramel Crunch bar, I was intrigued.  If there's one thing I truly love in this world, it's free stuff, so I knew I had to pick this one up even though I've never heard of iSatori in my life (they're a Canadian company according to the packaging).  The only problem, although not really a problem, is that the free bars were only available at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe locations.  Not a big deal, but it did take me into an unfamiliar territory of meatheads and serious fitness freaks.  This is a sizeable bar weighing in at 2.82 grams packing 330 calories and 27 grams of protein and is powered by Whey Protein Hydrolysates.  I have no idea what those are, but I'm guessing it has to do with protein.

On outward appearances, this bar has all the ingredients that you'd expect for something to be truly awesome.  Chocolate, caramel, peanuts and crunch...some of my favorite things.  As the picture shows,  the interior is a Rice Krispie like treat consisting of peanuts, what I assume to be peanut butter to bind it together and the Whey Protein mix.  On top of the Rice Krispie-ish treat is a caramel covering and then surrounding the entire bar is a chocolate coating.  Visually, this looks delicious.

Unfortunately, as is often the case, looks can be deceiving.  While the ingredients for success were all there, this one fell almost completely flat.  The only thing in this bar that truly worked out was the crunch as it did maintain its crunchiness throughout.  Outside of that, this thing was essentially flavorless.  I couldn't taste the chocolate, caramel, peanuts or anything else.  Basically, I might as well have been eating a piece of styrofoam because that's about what this was.

Buy It or Fly By It?  FLY BY IT, without question.  Truly an epic failure of something that had so much promise.  It's disappointing because I was really looking forward to this based on its description and also on the way it looked when I took it out of the package.  Oh well, sometimes there are disappointments in life and this is definitely one of them..

FLY BY IT!!
