Review: Kraft MilkBite Oatmeal Raisin Milk & Granola Bar

I've been barreling through these MilkBite bars recently.  After typing up one of my recent reviews, I saw on the Kraft website that there were a couple of new flavors available that I had not yet seen.  After seeing that, I filed it away in my head to start looking and on a recent trip to one of my local Marsh stores, I finally found a box of these Kraft MilkBite Oatmeal Raisin Milk & Granola Bars on sale for $2.50 for a box of five bars.  Each bar is 1.23 ounces, has 130 calories and also five grams of protein.  Oatmeal raisin is one of my tried and true favorite flavor combinations, so I was very anxious to dive into this one.

Since these MilkBite bars are a mass produced product, it's not really a surprise that it looks pretty similar to the rest of the product line with a few exceptions.  In this case, the major exception is of course the raisins included included in the granola bar mix.  Also, the size of the oats in the mix in this bar are a little larger as this truly is supposed to be more of an oatmeal bar instead of a granola bar with a little bit of oats included.  Also included in the mix is a bit of cinnamon and since cinnamon works so wonderfully with the oatmeal raisin combination, I wouldn't have expected anything less.  The bar is then topped with a vanilla icing swirl and since it looks pretty much like all the bars, it's time to dive into the flavor.

What does this bar taste like?  Well, not surprisingly, it tastes like the old reliable oatmeal and raisin flavor combination with a hint of cinnamon aftertaste.  None of the flavors is particularly strong or stands out in any way, but they all work in harmony together to form the flavor combination that I've come to expect.  The raisins were sweet, the cinnamon added a bit of "spice" and the oatmeal tasted like oatmeal.  The presences of the little milk globules in the mix added a cooling taste to everything, kind of like you made your morning bowl of oatmeal with milk instead of water, which is something that I almost never do.  One thing that was lacking in this bar and I only know this because I've had so many of these MilkBite bars is that there wasn't a surprising little crunch aftertaste in this like there is in the other bars.  Honestly, I kind of missed that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This is a safe flavor combination that delivers in the way that you'd expect it to.  Sure, I wish it had been far tastier, but the fact that it safely delivered all the flavors that it promised to deliver earns it a BUY IT rating.  It's not spectacular, but it is a solid performer and if you pick this up on your own looking for an oatmeal raisin flavor combination, you will not be disappointed by this bar.  Just don't expect anything wonderful though.

BUY IT!!

  1. This flavor was my favorite of the MilkBite bars, but I have yet to try the Mixed Berry flavor.
