Review: Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Fruit Crunch Granola Bars Strawberry Parfait

The calendar year changeover has gotten the big smack manufacturers busy as they have been rolling out tons of new products. Kellogg's has been no different as I've already reviewed some of their new offerings and today is a review of another new offering from their Nutri-Grain line with this Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Fruit Crunch Granola Bars Strawberry Parfait. I picked up a box of these on sale at Marsh for $2.99 and each box contains five pouches of bars with two bars per pouch. Each pouch is 1.48 ounces and has 180 calories and three grams of protein.

As you can see from the picture above, the bulk of this bar is a typical crumbly granola bar mix, so you are going to want to have a broom nearby for when you are finished eating. The base if the bar is a vanilla parfait yogurt with slivers of strawberry mixed in and both provide a mild and appealing parfait smell, so they've delivered from a smell aspect. The granola mix also had several dried strawberries in it too (they were more visible in the other bar, you know, the one I had turned upside down; brilliant photography choices by me there), so I knew I would not be shorted on strawberry flavor when it came to this bar.

When I bit into this bar, I got pretty much what I expected and being that this is a mass-produced bar by a major food conglomerate, that's what I expected as well.  The granola itself was crunchy, but kind of bland flavored.  The strawberries added a bit of soft chewiness to the crunch granola and that textural difference was nice to have when I chewed through the bar.  The parfait based definitely had the flavor of mild vanilla yogurt with a slight twinge of strawberry and it did a nice job of coating the granola to give it yet another textural feel as I chewed through it.  All in all, it did a pretty decent job of emulating its namesake strawberry parfait.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Like I said, this bar was what I expected and that is absolutely fine.  It wasn't awesome flavor, but it wasn't bad flavor either and it was definitely appetizing so it gets a BUY IT rating.  When you are mass producing bars like a company like Kellogg's does, your aim is to reach as broad of an audience as possible and Kellogg's will definitely do that with this bar.  If you are feeling like a nice, safe choice of a bar that'll bring decent flavor, you definitely could not go wrong by picking this up for a try.

BUY IT!!
