Review: Walden Farms Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

Walden Farms keeps me extremely busy on this blog as I've done a plethora of reviews.  One of the problems with doing that many reviews on the same manufacturer is that I sometimes run out of ways to write an intro, which is something that I've lamented before.  So, I'll stop trying to be "cute" here and I'll just dive into the review of this Walden Farms Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad Dressing.  I picked up a twelve ounce bottle of this for $3.69 at Kroger and as with all Walden Farms products, it's calorie free, sugar free, etc.

This is modeled after raspberries, so naturally this going to be red like raspberries.  Congratulations, Walden Farms, you've succeeded there.  As for anything else...well there is nothing.  There are no seasoning mix-ins or anything like that, so it's all raspberry.  It is slightly runny, but since this is modeled after a vinaigrette, that is to be expected.  The only thing between this and a typical vinaigrette is that typical vinaigrettes usually have oil as an ingredient which thickens them up a bit.  This does not have that.  In terms of the smell, it smells like raspberry, so there's another winner there, although the raspberry smell is slightly acidic since Walden Farms products are based on vinegar and that's its native smell.

In terms of the taste, that acidity is always present, but since this is modeled after a vinaigrette which is naturally acidic, that is a welcome taste in this case.  It also has a fruity, although not sweet, taste of raspberries and all in all, does a nice job re-creating the taste that I would have expected when I purchased this.  One thing I will note is that I had this dressing when it was at room temperature for my initial review, but having had it a second time, I can say the raspberry taste morphs into an almost cooling flavor that makes it a bit more fruity and a bit less like a typical vinaigrette.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't say whether I liked this better as a cold dressing or a room temperature dressing, but I do know that I liked it both ways, so this gets a BUY IT rating.  If you are looking for a vinaigrette type dressing with a fruity kick that would work well on top of romaine lettuce or mixed greens or some kind of light tasting lettuce, then this is your answer.  It may not work as well on iceberg lettuce, but it would still be a solid tasting dressing and worthy of purchase, no matter what lettuce is being used.

BUY IT!!
