Review: Edy's (Dreyer's) Mint Cookies 'N Cream Frozen Custard

I recently when to a Chicago Cubs game in JUNE where it was fifty degrees in the middle of the day.  Needless to say, I was not happy.  So, anytime I find a killer sale that helps remind me of one of summer's favorite treats, I'm pretty inclined to buy it since it'll remind me of the summer that I HOPE will actually happen.  With that, I saw another Edy's custard product (they're new) on sale at Kroger for $2.49.  I had a $1.00 off coupon, so this was basically free!  Anyway, the container of this Edy's (Dreyer's) Mint Cookies 'N Cream Frozen Custard was one quart (32 ounces) and each quart had eight half-cup size servings that clocked in at 210 calories per serving.

I've got to admit that I was expecting a lot more green mint color when I opened this.  Instead, it was more of an off white color with a very, very minor tint of green.  I guess based on that, it seems the cookies 'n cream was supposed to be the star attraction here with just a hint of mint.  The cookies were definitely the attraction as there were tons of chocolate sandwich-style cookies spread throughout.  As for the mint, there was a slight hint of mint in the aroma of this, but it was not particular potent (thus the use of the word "slight").

The flavor only had a slight hint of that mint flavor as well as it was more of an accent to the cookies 'n cream flavoring.  This was mostly cream and then it did have a nice mix of chocolate cookie chunks and crumbles throughout that added wonderful texture AND nice chocolate flavor to accent the cream flavor and the mint flavor.  As I said, this was just a basic cookies 'n cream smooth and creamy custard (it really was that) with a hint of mint at the end of each spoonful.  I liked that because I was worried about there being too much mint in this going in.  That said, I did expect more mint out of this.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Whether I expected more mint or not is irrelevant because the flavor of this was just fine.  It was tasty in fact and that's why I happily give this a BUY IT rating.  This was a nice, pleasant flavor that while not exactly majorly mint, was excellently tasty and yes, I did just say the same thing twice by wording it differently in two different sentences.  Yep, I'm quite the wordsmith.
