Review: CLIF Mojo Sweet and Salty Honey Roasted Peanut Trail Mix Bar

I was strolling through Marsh recently and made my usual trip through the nutrition bar aisle looking for new products to review.  As I was perusing what was on the shelf, I happened upon a bar that I thought I had to have reviewed before, but after looking at the CLIF review archives, I found that I hadn't yet reviewed this CLIF Mojo Sweet and Salty Honey Roasted Peanut Trail Mix Bar for some reason.  I'm not quite sure why either as I'm guessing it's not a new product, although the lack of presence on the CLIF website could leave me to believe otherwise.  I honestly don't know if it's new, a boring recipe or just something that I had blatantly missed, but after ascertaining that it was a "new" review subject for me, I quickly grabbed this bar up for $1.25.  The bar itself is 1.6 ounces, 200 calories and has nine grams of protein.

CLIF does a good job taking away one of the mysteries of life with the packaging of these Mojo bars in that the provide these in a clear wrapper.  Wrapped or unwrapped, it was pretty easy to see that this included a mix of honey roasted peanuts, pretzels and soy crisps that were all bound together with peanut butter and they typical kinds of syrups that you find in these bars.  What the packaging does hide is obviously the smell and once I got this out of the wrapper, I could smell a soothing blend of both honey and peanut, which was a nice mix.  The bar was also quite sticky from the abundance of peanut butter that was binding this together.

Biting into this provided more of a challenge that I would have expected in the fact that it was crunchier and more solid than I would have thought.  Regardless, my first bite was immediately met with that nutty and honey flavor I smelled when I took this out of the packaging.  The nutty flavor was obviously a potent peanut flavor being that there were chunks of peanuts and also peanut butter in the mix of this bar.  That flavor was thick and was topped off with a hint of sweetness from the honey, which was quite nice.  That nutty and sweet flavor then had the addition of the salty component of this bar as the airy pretzels brought that to the table and when mixed with the peanuts/honey, this one did a good job representing the sweet and salty flavor profiles that the name of this bar clearly signifies that this is going for.

Buy It or Fly By It?  A basic recipe, but quite a tasty one.  Hearty, sweet and salty all wrapped into one and all of this provided an enjoyable experience that earns this bar a BUY IT rating.  I do with it hadn't been as difficult to chew, but that ultimately didn't impact my experience enough that it turned me off.  So, if you see this bar on the shelves of your local store and think to stay away because it is such a basic flavor combination, I would definitely advise that you think differently because in the instance of this bar, basic is good.

BUY IT!!
