Review: Siggi's Skyr Blueberry Icelandic-Style Yogurt

I recently took a look at my first Siggi's product and while I appreciated the intent of the product, I wasn't overly impressed with how it turned out.  With that less than stellar introduction to the blog, the only thing that hurried me into doing another review was that this 5.3 ounce container of  Siggi's Skyr Blueberry Icelandic-Style Yogurt that I purchased for $1.50 at Meijer had an expiration date on it and I didn't want to be wasteful and watch this product go bad.  Anyway, just like the last one, this single serving cup packed 110 calories and fourteen grams of protein into its Iceland-style yogurt cup.

As I covered last time, Skyr yogurt is Icelandic and one of the things that makes it unique is that it is extremely thick and this definitely was that.  What made this one unique from the last one that I looked at was that this at least had a somewhat purple hue to it to convey that this was indeed blueberry flavored.  The last cup was pretty much just off white in color.  Outside of that coloring, there were some extremely tiny bits of blueberries (more like slivers) spread throughout the cup and it had an extremely minimal aroma of blueberry as well.  From an appearance perspective, this seemed to be more of the same as last time.

Where this differed ever so slightly from last time is that there was a faint amount of blueberry flavor to this and it wasn't just all plain yogurt.  Unfortunately, it was mostly plain yogurt and the blueberry flavor was only there in minimal amounts.  Once again, the intent of the cup was ruined.  Like I said last time and will repeat here, the yogurt itself was thick, creamy, tangy and enjoyable.  It just needed more of the intended flavor.

Buy It or Fly By It?  It's a short review, but there isn't much to say here.  I appreciate that Siggi's is trying to bring Icelandic-style yogurt to the stores and I appreciate the thickness of the yogurt, but when there really isn't any flavor in this other than just plain yogurt, I have to give it a FLY BY IT rating.  If I wanted plain yogurt, I'd buy plain yogurt. I buy flavored cups so that I can taste that flavor and unfortunately, Siggi's just hasn't done a good job delivering that flavor.

FLY BY IT!!

  1. I've tried several flavors of Siggi's and have consistently been disappointed... I suppose the "Icelandic style" of yogurt just isn't my favorite... too sour/tart, and not nearly enough of whatever flavor it's supposed to be (strawberry, blueberry, etc). That said, I recently ran across the new pumpkin spice flavor of Siggi's skyr/yogurt at my local Super Target and decided to give it a chance, and I'm glad I did... that one proved to be the exception to the rule; the flavor of the pumpkin and spices wasn't THAT intense, but it was definitely there, and I enjoyed it... I will definitely be buying that one again and I recommend giving it a try if you happen to see it (if you like pumpkin spice, that is).

On a somewhat related note, Noosa's Target-exclusive pumpkin flavored yogurt is absolutely incredible... I recommend trying that one out as well!
