Review: Dannon Creamery Caramel Cheesecake Dairy Dessert

Ahhh, Dannon...you sneaky French guys.  You've managed to sneak a new product line into my stores that I just noticed recently as I was aimlessly wandering by the dairy case in my local Meijer and saw another Dannon product review subject sitting right above the Greek yogurts.  Immediately intrigued, I grabbed up a couple of these new products from the Creamery line for $1.50 and my first review leads me to this container of  Dannon Creamery Caramel Cheesecake Dairy Dessert.  The container itself is 5.3 ounces, which puts it right at the same size as the Greek yogurts that it was sitting next to.  Despite the fact that it doesn't have yogurt in the name, my super sleuthing skills (okay, I just read the container) caused me to find out that the "cheesecake" in this actually a formulation of Greek yogurt.  Interesting.  Anyway, the whole container is 230 calories and since it's protein-packed Greek yogurt, I suppose I should point out that it has nine grams of protein, which is semi-respectable.

Being that this is named after caramel cheesecake, it should come as no surprise that upon opening the container (kind of funny/interesting that this is in a reusable container...thanks for the free plastic storage container Dannon!) that this was kind of modeled after a caramel cheesecake in that the caramel topping/syrup was on top and the cheesecake (Greek yogurt) was on the bottom.  The caramel topping was more runny than I would have anticipated, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because it did have a strong scent of caramel (the burnt kind), so it seemed as if it would have a lot of flavor, despite being runny.  The cheesecake/Greek yogurt beneath that was semi-stiff too, just like an actual cheesecake, so that was encouraging as well.

Being that this was made up of two separate components, I felt it was my duty as a reviewer to address the two components individually before diving in.  The caramel was first and it was rich and quite flavorful.  It was definitely the burnt kind of caramel and since I personally prefer the sugary type of caramel, I wish it had leaned more that direction.  Still, this caramel was quite good.  Next was the "cheesecake" portion and I can say that this Greek yogurt did quite a good job emulating cheesecake itself.  It was creaming and cooling, just like a real cheesecake.  What was interesting was that it didn't have a lot of the Greek yogurt flavor at all and was more like cheesecake.  So much so that I had to do a double take looking at my free reusable container to make sure this actually was Greek yogurt.  It says it was, but I still have my doubts.  Anyway, I then took a taste of both components together and they were exactly like I'd expect a caramel topped cheesecake to taste like (minus the graham crust).  Rich, decadent and quite tasty.  Again, I wish there had been less burnt flavor, but that's more of a me problem than a Dannon problem.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If Dannon is going to sneak more products like this out, I wish they'd speed it up because I enjoyed this quite a bit and will happily give it a BUY IT rating.  Like I said previously, rich decadent and quite tasty.  It's a fun spin on typical single serve Greek yogurt cups and one that I look forward to trying some of the other flavors.  Oh by the way, did I mention that this gives me a free reusable container once I finish it?

BUY IT!!

  1. I don't like cheesecake very much (shocking, I know!), so I doubt I would enjoy this particular product... that said, I recently tried the new Vanilla Pudding from the Dannon "Creamery" line, and I liked that one a lot.

  2. today i tried the Dannon creamery- blueberry cheesecake one and was sadly disappointed, I did not taste cheesecake nor did i find it satisfying. I would not purchase this agian but do want to try the new creamery puddings in hope of a happier outcome.

  3. I tried the cherry cheesecake and the dark chocolate pudding. I gotta say I was unaware that the "cheesecake" was supposed to be healthy Greek yogurt or I might have been more forgiving... But I thought it was TERRIBLE. No cheesecake-like tang at all and... it just totally missed the mark. The dark chocolate pudding, on the other hand, is so delicious I have bought 3 more since I first tried it! I also tried the vanilla pudding but in the end wished I had spent the money on another tub of dark chocolate. Very yummy.

  4. I came across the caramel flavor and this and while I am all for sweets, this was TOOTH ROTTING sweet, I actually cringed after taking a bite. I would recommend it for anyone that can handle the sweetness, but, I had to put it back and have yet to touch it again.

  7. I have seen them at the Tom Thumb stores. At one store they had them with the regular yogurt and at another they were in the refrigerated pudding section. I myself have tried the lemon one and the caramel. I enjoy the cheesecake part quite a bit but did not like the caramel flavor, it was a little too sweet for me and the texture was off. I did like the lemon though.

  8. I bought 2 of these. Strawberry and blueberry (they were the only flavors the store had). The strawberry topping was only strawberry in name. It was a pinkish, clearish, gelatinous goo made of sugar. The blueberry topping at least has blueberries in it. The canned kind that might be used in a cheap blueberry pie. Not really all that bad.
As far as the "cheesecake" yogurt...whatever. Sweet? Yes. Creamy? Yes. But I didn't really get the cheesecake flavor. So all in all, a $1.69 disappointment.

  10. I was disappointed in this product. I was expecting more from Dannon. All this was, was yogurt with bland pink goo on top. It would have been better if it was a custard with strawberry preserves or similar.

  11. Ehhhh......I bought a couple of the "cheesecake" flavors, and a couple puddings. Didn't care at all for them. Just didn't tastes like you would think.

  12. I've tried most of the flavors, and I found the puddings to be kind of... gritty. I'm not sure what that's about, but it was gross. I actually enjoyed the caramel cheesecake and lemon cheesecake flavors the most, despite not being super cheesecakey tasting.
