Review: Raw Revolution Golden Cashew Bar

So I've mentioned my new bar purge(s) at my local Marsh Supermarket in their expanded health food section.  This bar came as a result of that first initial purge and adds to my modestly sized Raw Revolution review archive.  I grabbed this Raw Revolution Golden Cashew Bar for $1.49 and the bar itself is 1.8 ounces and comes at 280 calories with seven grams of protein.  It's organic, gluten free, kosher and vegan, so it's got all that going for it too. It apparently was something else at one time too because if you look at the wrapper above, you can see that they blacked out one of the previous features.  I find it funny that not only did this bar lose a particular status, but they also just re-used the old packaging and took the easy way out by blacking it out.  As a guy that works for a company that constantly makes decisions on the fly, that seemingly on the fly decision by Raw Revolution cracks me up.

Raw Revolution's website advertises this as its most basic bar yet in that it only has six ingredients.  Those ingredients include the named cashews, dates, sunflower seed kernels, agave nectar, almonds and sprouted flax seed, all of which are organic.  The bar itself was very sticky and soft and had a nice smell of nuttiness emitting from it.  As you can see above, the bar itself is a date paste mixed with all the aforementioned ingredients.  The cashews had some decent sized to them and the almonds were just small little bits spread throughout.  The seeds, flax, etc. were spread amply throughout as well, for an interesting mix of a bar.  What was perhaps more interesting was the fact that this was a golden bar like the name implied and that was interesting to perhaps only me.

As I bit into this, it pretty much gave me the texture that I was expecting.  It was soft and chewy with the occasional pop provided by the nuts.  There was some graininess provided by the sunflower seeds and flax as well.  Basically, it was very similar to a Larabar in how it felt in my mouth.  In terms of flavor, this bar was basically a semi-salty bar that was primarily nutty flavor as I'd expect.  The cashews were the prevalent nut flavor and that semi-salty nutty flavor was accented by a slight hint of sweetness from the dates.  All in all, this bar could neither be classified as sweet or salty, but it did have the characteristics of each.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Neither overwhelmingly sweet nor overwhelmingly salty, this bar provided for a solid eating experience and gets a BUY IT rating from me.  If you are in the mood for a nutty bar, this one will definitely win you over as that is essentially what this entire bar is and since that is the name of the bar, that's really not surprising is it?  Regardless, if you grab this off the shelf, I do think you'll end up being satisfied in the end, especially if you are a big fan of cashews.

BUY IT!!
