Review: Raw Organic Chocolate Chocolate Chip Food Bar

Some people just crave chocolate.  Whether it's an emotional craving or what, I don't know, but I do know that I crave chocolate a lot.  Because I do crave it so much, I try to only keep a limited amount in my house because I know I could eat it all in one fell swoop and I'd rather not do that.  Recently, I had a chocolate craving and since my supplies were low (intentionally), the only thing I could find to try to satisfy that craving is this Raw Organic Chocolate Chocolate Chip Food Bar that adds to my Organic Food Bar review catalog.  I picked this one up at Marsh for $1.99 and each bar comes in at 1.76 ounces with 220 calories and eight grams of protein.

As you can see in the photo above, this bar carries that unattractive, gummy fruit puree look that a lot of bars carry.  It's also sticky, so there's a lot about this that you can definitely say is unattractive.  Within the unattractive date puree is a mixture of dark chocolate chips and what appears to be tiny cashews.  It seems like those cashews come from what is a crunchy cashew butter, but if you were to read the label like I did, you'd have no idea.  Anyway, the rest of the bar is filled with sprouts, quinoa, etc.  It's definitely healthy in terms of its ingredients.  As for the smell of the bar, it smells somewhat like dark chocolate, but mostly smells like a whole lot of nothing.

As I bit into this and chewed through it, the texture of it reminded me of a raisin in that it was gummy, soft and chewy.  The flavor also reminded me of a very weakly flavored raisin as there was only a VERY mild amount of sweetness within this bar.  The dark chocolate chips and what I assumed were cashews brought a hint of crunch into this, but it was nothing particularly outstanding.  It just kind of broke up the gumminess for a bit, but that's it.  As for those dark chocolate chips, they definitely tasted like dark chocolate in a very mild appearance.  Outside of that very brief appearance, they were virtually non-existent although I could feel some of them melt in my mouth a bit.  The cashews (?) really were a whole lot of nothing too.

Buy It or Fly By It?  It's not that this bar was good or that it was bad, but it was such a no-show that I'm really not sure how to rate it.  There was not really a distinguishable flavor that I could pick out and this was a whole lot of nothing, so it gets a FLY BY IT rating.  It's edible and that's about it.  Definitely not worth a purchase, chocolate craving or not.

FLY BY IT!!
