Review: Boundless Nutrition Oatmega Vanilla Almond Bar

My last Oatmega review was kind of boring.  The bar was fine and got a BUY IT rating, but nothing about it was particularly memorable for me.  So, as I headed into this review of the Boundless Nutrition Oatmega Vanilla Almond Bar, I wasn't expecting to be particularly thrilled either since this had such a seemingly boring product name/recipe.  Still, these are new products and I want to try each of them out, so I picked this up at Marsh for $2.99.  The bar is 1.8 ounces and has 190 calories and fourteen grams of protein.  It's also part of the growing wave of gluten free products that I see slowly starting to take over the shelves of my local grocery stores.

I often neglect to look at ingredient lists before I open packaging and that certainly was the case with this bar.  The reason I mention that is because when I opened this and saw white chocolate chips spread throughout the bar, I was very surprised and also very delighted.  I love white chocolate and seeing that they were included in this bar made me giddy.  Along with those little white chocolate chips were some small almond bits and also a "creamy" vanilla (that's the way their website describes it) that binds all the rice crisps together.  It also had a strong vanilla smell, so there clearly was no mistaking that this bar had vanilla as a focal point.

Biting into this basically took me into heaven.  The vanilla flavor was strong and "fresh" and the white chocolate chips added some sweet decadence to this bar.  The bar itself was quite soft and chewy, but the presence of the small almond bits added a bit of grainy crunch to this to break up the texture and that was nice.  As I kept chewing through this bar, I kept wanting more and if I had to equate the vanilla flavor to something, I would say it was similar to a soft serve vanilla ice cream that you'd get from Dairy Queen or something of the like.  The total package of the bar itself was also quite similar to the delightful (and addicting) Rice Krispie Treats and in my mind, that is never a bad thing.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I didn't expect much going into this review, but what I got was a bar that was incredibly awesome and very deserving of the BUY IT rating that I'm going to hang on it.  Like I said previously, after I finished this bar, I was sad that I didn't have more because it was so incredibly good.  If you see this in the store and want something that is going to more than pleasantly surprise you, this would be an excellent option to pick up.  It's also a "healthier" version of a Rice Krispie Treat, so I suppose you can't beat that.

BUY IT!!

  1. I tried the Mocha flavor yesterday and it was slightly better than the Dark Chocolate Peanut but not close to the deliciousness that the Vanilla Almond entails. I also tried some of this companies "Perfect Cookie" flavors of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip and they are pretty good as well. I live In Texas though where the company I believed is based out of so it may be easier for me to obtain than others.
