For whatever reason over the past few months, I've developed an absurd obsession with cake. Most people like cake and I always have too, but for some unknown reason, I've developed a NEED for cake at least once or twice a week. I often stop at my local grocery store and buy a slice of whatever cake they have on the shelf that is available. Thankfully I haven't gotten as far to buy a whole cake yet and hopefully that day will never come. So, when MyOatmeal.com sent me a promo code to try out some of the products on their website as I mentioned in a prior review, the fact that they have a flavor named MyOatmeal.com Vanilla Frosting PB Lean was right up my alley. This 1.5 pound package of powdered peanut butter contains 48+ servings at fourteen grams each and each serving is 57 calories.
As you can see above, it just looks like powdered peanut butter mixed with water. I will say one thing that was interesting about this is that this mix appeared to be darker than the German Chocolate Cake mix that I had previously. Considering that this is vanilla frosting flavored, which is traditionally white in its real form, I found the fact that this was a darker shade of brown to be interesting. As for the rest of this, it had a slight smell of vanilla frosting, so from a very basic presentation perspective, they nailed this one.
After my experience with my last review, I took my first spoonful with only minimal expectations going in. I wasn't expecting to have my mind blown and while this didn't blow my mind, it was quite good. It did a more than fair job of emulating the namesake in that it was alternately sweet and rich just like the frosting itself. What made this interesting was that the vanilla frosting was complimented lightly by the nutty taste of peanut butter. That was not really something I'd ever had before and not something that I'd ever really considered. Still, it was a fairly solid compilation and something that I enjoyed consuming.
Buy It or Fly By It? After having my hopes let down by German Chocolate Cake, this Vanilla Frosting flavor restored my faith in flavored powdered peanut butter since I found it to be an enjoyable eat and will give it a BUY IT rating. I'm still trying to figure out how I could use it functionally other than just eating it standing on its own, but perhaps this would be good in a smoothie or something like that? I don't know, so I'll have to experiment. Either way, I know this will end up being a pleasant experiment since I did enjoy the flavor of this.

Which flavors do you think would work with food? For example, in oatmeal or yogurt?
ReplyDeleteI'm having a difficult time trying to figure out which flavors to order.
I think the ones that have stronger tastes, like the Pumpkin Spice one would work better with food because they would differentiate themselves from the taste of the food you are mixing it with.
