Review: Quaker Real Medleys Peach Almond Multigrain Fruit & Nut Bars

It's funny, Quaker feels that they have such a success on their hands with their Real Medleys single serve oatmeal cups, that they've decided to take those previously reviewed flavor combinations and try them out in fruit and not bars.  Funny concept to me when I really think about it, but I'll try anything, so that led me to pick up this box of five Quaker Real Medleys Peach Almond Multigrain Fruit & Nut Bars at Meijer for $3.00.  Each bar in the box comes in at 1.34 ounces with 160 calories.  I usually hit on protein, but it's such an irrelevant number here, that I'll just skip it.

So, as you can see, they've taken the basic components of the oatmeal and rolled it into bar form with large chunks of dried peaches and decent-sized chunks of almonds spread throughout.  There was of course the multigrain oatmeal and all those components are bound together by honey, which actually makes this bar quite sticky to the touch.  It also had a mild peach smell that was appealing, so that was a nice presentation going into me testing this out.

As I took my first bite, I was pleasantly surprised by the differences in texture in this bar.  The almonds and dried multigrain oatmeal added a crunch and grainy component to the bar as I chewed my way through it.  The dried peaches then added a chewy and almost gummy component to counteract the nuts and grains, so this pretty much hit all aspects of the chewing spectrum (a spectrum that I've just created for the purposes of this blog).  In terms of flavor, this was basically just a punch of peach and honey since the nuts basically only ended up being there for texture.  The peaches were mildly sweet and not particularly overpowering, but that sweetness gap was assisted in coverage by the sticky honey binding.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I feel the same way about this bar that I did about the oatmeal.  Certainly not the greatest thing I've ever eaten, but definitely appealing enough that I will certainly give it a BUY IT rating.  These are the kind of things that make solid snacks...not great flavor that leaves you wanting more to eat, but good enough flavor that it can cure a momentary hunger pang and allow you to move on with your day.

BUY IT!!
