Review: Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Strawberry Greek Yogurt Cereal Bars

With the plethora of Greek yogurt products that are hitting the market at breakneck speed, I think I might be missing something in not taking advantage of this craze.  So, I've decided that I'm going to add an "is" to the end of my last name (sorry, not going to share that one) just so that I can be part of the craze too.  Annoying diatribe aside, today's review adds to my review catalog with Kellogg's foray into this craze with this review of the box of eight Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Strawberry Greek Yogurt Cereal Bars that I picked up on sale at Meijer for $3.00.  Each bar in the box is 1.3 ounces and has 130 calories and two grams of protein.

From the outside, this looks like a typical Nutri-Grain bar with one exception and that's the pinkish Greek yogurt filling that was buried in the interior of the bar.  It was kind of creamy, which was a bit of a surprise to me.  It also smelled faintly and pleasingly of strawberry, which based on the fact that the bar is supposed to indeed do that, that was certainly encouraging.  As I mentioned already, the rest of the bar is just the typical Nutri-Grain cereal bar.

After my first bite, the outer portion of the bar tasted exactly what I would have expected like...it was a semi-sweet cereal mix.  The interior of the bar is where this really made a difference as it truly was a yogurt filling in the fact that it was cooling, moist and provided an incredibly different mouthfeel than I have ever experienced in one of these cereal bars.  The strawberry flavor was almost candy like in that it was sweet and when mixed with the cooling yogurt, made for a delightful counter to the doughy and grainy cereal bar portion.  The fact that this yogurt was so creamy and almost oozed out of the cereal bar portion of the bar as well.  As for the yogurt tasting like Greek yogurt, well, that wasn't the case.  It tasted pretty much like a normal yogurt, so I'll just have to take Kellogg's word for it that it is a Greek yogurt.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I've got to admit that I didn't have very high expectations going into this and after eating one (or more) of these, I've got to say that I throughly enjoyed this and definitely give it a BUY IT.  Honestly, I loved this bar.  It was completely different than what I expected and I mean that only in positive ways.  If one were to grab this as a breakfast or as a snack, they'd be equally as delighted as I was because this is one of the few products out there that really did knock my socks off compared to the expectations that I had going in.

BUY IT!!
