Review: Premier Protein Double Chocolate Crunch Protein Bar

After having never seen these Premier Protein bars before and then seeing them at Kroger on sale, I went on a purchasing binge and picked up three of them at once.  You've seen the others in prior reviews, but today's review wraps up my purchasing binge as I'll be taking a look at the least creative of all the flavors that I picked up with this Premier Protein Double Chocolate Crunch Protein Bar.  It dinged me at $1.67 and the bar itself is a robust 2.5 ounces with a power packed 280 calories and thirty grams of protein.  Everything about this bar screams meathead, so the fact that I am definitely not one of those and am trying the bar anyway brings a slight sense of amusement to me.

As you can see, there's not a whole lot of presentation going on with this bar as it is basically just a chocolate protein bar, albeit with double chocolate.  The exterior of the bar is a chocolate shell and the interior of the bar is the standard protein/soy crisp mix with more chocolate added into the mix, thus the "double" part of the product name.  So, in this case, "double" means that there is chocolate everywhere, inside and out.

Biting into this, I can definitely say that it was crunchy and it was double chocolate and that's it.  The chocolate was not overly sweet or rich, but it was mildly appetizing.  I think the best way to describe it would be that it was fudge-like.  The soy crisp interior was kind of an airy crunch, but that's the nature of a lot of these soy crisp interiors.  One positive characteristic was that the chocolate in the bar itself melts quickly and coats the already strong chocolate flavor of the interior soy crisp.  The one thing that became a negative about this was that the chocolate became almost gummy as I chewed my way through it and that was neither welcome nor appetizing.  All in all, I would have to say that this was basically a plain chocolate candy bar, with the noticeable difference that it had a soy crisp interior.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't say anything bad about this bar, nor can I say anything good about this bar.  It was fine, I suppose.  Outside of that, it was just boring, so I guess I'm going to give it a FLY BY IT rating because of that.  That said, if you are a meathead (or want to be one) and you are looking for your chocolate fix, I think this would work just fine for you because this is a lot of chocolate.

FLY BY IT!!
