Review: Muller Greek Corner Lowfat Yogurt with Mango

Like the last Muller review that I did, I've stayed away from certain flavors of theirs because I honestly don't know what they are.  Today's review of this Muller Greek Corner Lowfat Yogurt with Mango is another one of those examples.  Now, I know I've had mango before in  my life but prior to this, I honestly could not tell you what it tasted like.  That uncertainty kept me away, but I'm a big boy, so I guess it's time that I start trying different things in life (one of the primary reasons I started this blog).  Anyway, I picked up this dual-compartmented container of Greek yogurt on sale at Kroger for $1.00.  It's 5.3 ounces and has 150 calories and nine grams of protein.

Like all their Greek corner products, one side contains the plain and strong smelling Greek yogurt and the other contains the mix-in of choice.  In this case, the mix-in is obviously mango and upon closer examination, I noticed there were some fairly decent-sized chunks of mango sitting in what essentially was mango preserves.  The preserves themselves were strong smelling and contained a smell that was kind of a cross between pineapple and peach and upon further internet research, I learned that's basically what the mango flavor profile was, so I win!  The continuing education of the sheltered Crazy Food Dude continues!

Knowing that the Greek yogurt would be tart and thick, I didn't even bother to try it out before hand.  If you've had one of these Greek Corner products,  you've had them all.  The only real test here was the mango mix and it tasted just like the flavor profile said it was.  It was a mix of sweetness and tang, just like an amalgamation of peaches and pineapples.  It wasn't overly sweet or overly tangy, which was nice.  If you were just eating the preserves, I think you'd be satisfied, but that's obviously not the point of this product, so I mixed the two together and was I got was a surprisingly enjoyable mix of tart, tang and sweet.  The Greek yogurt itself can sometimes be a bit too tart, but this mango mix did a good job of taming that and bringing some additional flavors to it give it almost a creamy citrus taste, which was fun.  The chunks of mango also broke up the creamy texture a bit to make it kind of chewy in some instances, so that was fun as well.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I don't know why I was so afraid of this because after having it, I can honestly say that I enjoyed this so it gets a BUY IT rating.  Now that I've crawled out of my hole and actually know what mangos taste like, I think I'll branch out more and try more mango flavored products because I could have found another flavor profile that I thoroughly enjoy.  The well-done presentation of this may have opened my naive eyes to a whole new world!

BUY IT!!

  1. oh my goodness. Don't know what a mango taste like? Delicious is what it is! You should really try them fresh though, preserves aren't going to do it justice.

  2. And mangoes are good green or orange. We slice them up when still slightly green and crunchy and snack on them like apples sometimes with a sprinkle of salt.
