Review: Genisoy Chocolate Fudge Brownie Protein Bar

To say I was appalled by last (and first) Genisoy review would be an understatement.  It was absolutely terrible and I ended up trashing the second half of the bar.  So, I was not exactly excited to dive into this review of the Genisoy Chocolate Fudge Brownie Protein Bar that I picked up in the same shopping trip to Kroger for $1.00.  This bar is 1.98 ounces and comes in at 210 calories and ten grams of protein.  It's obviously soy based as well.

To be honest, this bar is not a whole lot to look at.  It's a dense and quite solid bar with a chocolate fudge exterior coating.  Within that coating is the standard protein mix of soy crisps, etc.  Also in that interior mix is are little bits of chocolate "cookies" that are scattered among the soy crisps.  Despite its boring visual appearance, the chocolate fudge did have a decent and pleasing smell to it and didn't carry that stinky soy smell that I've grown used to, so that was encouraging.

After I just about broke my teeth biting into this ridiculously hard bar, I was immediately struck by how the fudge actually tasted like fudge.  I honestly did not expect that to happen.  It wasn't overly sweet, but it was dense and rich like a typical fudge square usually is.  After that fudge taste though, there was nothing else about this bar.  The "cookie" crumbles did provide an airy Oreo cookie-like crunch to break up the soy crisps.  They didn't really have any flavor though, although that just could be because the fudge flavor overpowered most of the bar.  A nice thing about all of this though was that it didn't have the typical soy flavor that soy products almost always have and I appreciated that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This bar really wasn't that bad, but despite that, it really wasn't my cup of tea and I give it a FLY BY IT rating because of that.  Some people with razor sharp teeth or a major craving for fudge and/or soy products may find this to be tasty, but neither of those things are me, so I can't say that I'll be going for this one again.
