I've been trying out a lot of coconut-flavored Greek yogurt products recently and I've been having a lot of success with them, so to say I had high expectations coming in to try out another version of Yoplait's re-formulated version of their greek yogurt line (it's now "Blended") would be a fair statement. I picked up this 5.3 ounce cup of Yoplait Blended Coconut Greek Yogurt at Kroger on sale for $1.00 and each cup has 150 calories and eleven grams of protein.
When I opened this up, as you can also see, there's not a whole lot too it. I turned the light off that I usually use in product "studio" as we'll because I didn't want my iPhone camera to try to alter the color of this one. I wanted you to be able to see that this is ghost white just like the inside of a coconut. It also had some tiny, tiny shards of shredded coconut blended in, but I had to work really hard to find those. As for the smell, it had more of that familiar Greek yogurt smell, meaning it smelled almost like spoiled milk. It wasn't gross, but its just a unique smell and that's the best way I can think of to describe it. After that smell was a very faint hint of coconut smell, but it wasn't particularly potent.
When I took my first spoonful of this creamy Greek yogurt and took it down, all I could taste was that standard Greek yogurt flavoring of tartness and semi-sourness. I was just about to write this off as disappointing and then at the very end of the taste, I was hit by a wonderful taste of sweet coconut. Not only was it a sudden burst of coconut flavor, but it continue to linger in an extremely pleasant way far after the yogurt was gone from my mouth. Being that I've grown to become a pretty large fan of coconut, I very much appreciated that lingering flavor. With each spoonful, I could also taste some of those sparsely little shavings of coconut that brought a bit of a grainy texture that I really wasn't counting on, so that was nice as well.
Buy It or Fly By It? This is another one that you can add to the good experiences that I've had with the coconut-flavored versions of Greek yogurt, so this gets a BUY IT rating. The yogurt itself had fine flavor, but the little shavings of coconut added a little textural difference that made this one kind of fun to plow through and if you are a coconut lover like I am, I think you'd have the same experience. This is another solid Blended product by Yoplait and I'm beginning to think that could be a recurring theme.
