Review: Smartfood Cinnamon Brown Sugar Multigrain Popped Chips

I have mentioned on countless occasions that I like to troll through the clearance section of any store, including the grocery store, to find interesting things (to me) to purchase.  A lot of those things that I find and purchase make their way to the blog here through reviews.  Today's review of these Smartfood Cinnamon Brown Sugar Multigrain Popped Chips is one of those clearance purchases.  The full purchase price of this small 0.8 ounce bag was $1.00, but I was able to grab it on clearance for $0.49.  Lucky me.  Anyway, each small bag was an economical 100 calories and it was also multigrain and all natural too.  Just look at all the health and portion control benefits!

Being that these are popped like popcorn, I was expecting them to be quite light and airy and they definitely were that.  As the for the rest of the chip, it was dusted quite liberally with brown sugar and cinnamon, so I knew that I'd be getting those flavors in spades not only by what I observed with my eyes, but also what I smelled with my nose as the smell of both was quite strong, although it still stayed in the palatable range as opposed to the overpowering range.

When I took one of these chips for a taste, they provided that light crunch like the many popped chips that I've had in the past often do, so that was not at all surprising and was completely expected.  What I wasn't expecting was a flavor that I would equate to be similar to a sweet potato and since I've grown to like sweet potatoes as I've aged, I appreciated that quite a bit.  As for the two named flavors, they were both evident in the taste of each chip, but I think that Smartfood got the naming order incorrect because the brown sugar was definitely more prevalent than that of the cinnamon, meaning these were more sweet than spicy.  Being that my sweet tooth is out of control, I appreciated that very much.  All together, this is more of a dessert-type chip than it is a salty chip.

Buy It or Fly By It?  As I was making my way through this tiny bag, which only took a few seconds due to its size, I was immediately reminded of another thing that was a pleasant surprise that tasted similar to this...White Castle's sweet potato fries.  Yep, White Castle.  Anything that allows me to draw a correlation to my beloved White Castle (yep, I'm that guy) obviously gets a BUY IT rating.  If you see these in the store and want a sweet and crunchy treat, these would be a solid choice.

BUY IT!!
