Review: Purely Decadent Dairy Free Peanut Butter Zig Zag Frozen Dessert

I talked previously about my dairy free frozen dessert splurge, so I'll spare that story again.  What I will say is that I picked up this pint of Purely Decadent Dairy Free Peanut Butter Zig Zag Frozen Dessert at Kroger on sale for $3.00.  As learned in my last review, Purely Decadent comes from the same place as So Delicious dairy free products, so this gets added to that family of reviews.  Simple third grade math tells me their are four half-cup size servings in this pint and each serving comes in with 230 calories, half of which are fat.  So, despite the fact that this is dairy free, it certainly is not missing the fat content or calorie load compared to a dairy product.

While not nearly as fun of a product description as my last Purely Decadent product review, I'll go ahead and let the website do the heavy lifting for me again:  "Scrumptious peanut butter and chocolate flakes swirled in a rich chocolate non-dairy frozen dessert base."  As the picture confirms above, all of those things are present and accounted for in the pint.  The glutton in me could have used more chocolate flakes, but for the average eating consumer, the amount of those chocolate flakes should be just fine.

Diving into my first spoonful, I've got to say that the description of this was maybe the most accurate product description that I've ever read.  In fact, it was so well done that it's almost pointless for me to write this review because of that.  I'll do it anyway and I'll first start with the chocolate.  This chocolate was not sweet, but it was definitely rich and dense.  Combine that with the non-sweet, but definitely hearty peanut butter and you've definitely got something that works well together like chocolate and peanut butter often do.  Add in the intermittent crunch provided by the flakes and you've got an entire package that while not fantastic, is definitely tasty.

Buy It or Fly By It?  While not fantastic, this is a solid combination of chocolate and peanut butter and gets a BUY IT rating from me.  There are those in the world that are overly infatuated with that flavor combination and this is one that is definitely for those people.  While I do really like chocolate and peanut butter together, I'm not overly infatuated with it, so while this gets a positive rating because it is tasty, it's not something that I could find myself being addicted to.
