Review: Lenny & Larry's Cookies & Cream Muscle Brownie

So Lenny & Larry liked my last review so much that they called it "Awesome" on Twitter.  I found that last bar to be beyond tasty and I also found out in the comments section that another reader say that today's Lenny & Larry's Cookies & Cream Muscle Brownie was even better.  I had already purchased it for $1.25 at Kroger, so reading that in the comments just made me feel even better about my purchase.  As I mentioned previously, these muscle brownies are so huge at 2.82 ounces that Lenny & Larry feel that they are actually two servings per package even though it is only one brownie.  Each of those servings is 170 calories and has 10 grams of serving, so if you devour the entire brownie, you are getting quite a calorie and protein load.

As like the last time, this one required some muscles to break in half for the photo above.  After I used my minuscule muscles to break this in half, I was greeted by a brownie crazily covered in cream swirls and then mixed in with little cream bits and soy crisps mixed within the actual baked part of the brownie.  That crazy amount of cream also carried a strong odor of cream, just like an Oreo cookie.  Much like an Oreo as well, the smell of chocolate was present and noticeable, but not overly potent.  Outside of those two enticing smells and the overwhelmingly yummy looking appearance of the bar, the only other observation that I have that this bar was extremely bulky, but based on everything I've described already, that should come as no surprise.

Having had experience previously with these brownies, I had a knowing feeling going in that despite the fact that these bars were bulky and had a solid exterior, they'd have a soft and doughy interior like a real brownie and that was absolutely the case.  What I was kind of surprised by was the powerful sugary taste of this and a lot of that was caused by the delicious cream.  That melted quickly over the doughy brownie.  That combination of cream and chocolate works all the time for an Oreo and it worked wonderfully for this brownie.  One thing that did moderately surprise me that there was ZERO crunch from those soy crisps in the middle of the brownie.  Not that this needed it because brownies are typically doughy and soft (unless they include nuts of course), but it was unexpected.  That said, it was by no means a negative because nothing about this brownie needed any improvement.

Buy It or Fly By It?  In my first review, I was proud of myself that I was able to contain myself and only eat half the brownie, which was an accomplishment because it was so delicious.  I have no reason to be proud of myself this time because I could not contain myself and devoured this entire thing in about ten seconds.  It was so unbelievably good that I am legitimately craving it right now.  Obviously that means a BUY IT rating, like I even need to type that out.  Based on the comment that I got in the prior, I was expecting a lot going in and this brownie not only met those expectations, but it far exceeded them as well.  If you ever see this in the store, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you did not pick this up to devour on your own.

BUY IT!!

  1. Sorry, one of my pet peeves is when they divide a bar/drink, etc into two servings, usually to make the stats look good. Not many people can be disciplined to cut the bar in half to begin with. I am especially irked that the bar plainly states 20g protein, but there is no asterisk to indicate that it is for the whole bar = 2 servings.

  2. I agree - I realize it's my responsibility to read labels (which is why I do it), but I won't purchase bars like this because they advertise in this manner. If they're going to include two servings in a bar, then I think the advertisement should reflect what is in the individual serving - but thanks for the review! :)

  3. I commented on this flavor in your peanut review. This taste wise in my estimation can compete with most candy bars/snack cake/hostess type desserts

I understand the prior two points of view but this bar is so good that I can overlook it. Taste wise its the best protein bar I've had by a wide margin

Kroger's has a triple chocolate one but the cookies and cream and peanut butter are so good I just skip over it. They always seem to have these on sale regularly too

In terms of meal replacement/snack I think it falls short of some of the metrx stuff in terms of being filling
