Review: SOYJOY Cranberry Baked Whole Soy & Fruit Bar

It's been a while since I've reviewed a SOYJOY bar (early last fall to be precise).  I thought I had covered all the flavors in my stores (minus Pineapple; not going to even attempt that one), but then this SOYJOY Cranberry Baked Whole Soy & Fruit Bar popped up on me during a recent visit to my local Marsh.  This is a new flavor, so I had never had it, thus I wanted to try it and when I saw it was on sale for $0.99, I was even more pleased.  The bar itself is all natural and consists of 140 calories and four grams of protein packed into 1.05 ounces of joy.  Like my plan on words there?  Yeah, I didn't figure you would...I think I'm more clever than I actually am most of the time.  Anyway, onto the review...

Being that this is a "baked" bar, the exterior continues that baked motif as it looks like it is some sort of pastry or other baked good that has been pulled out of the oven for your enjoyment.  Within that bar is the flavoring of choice, which in this instance, comes in the presence of several large dried cranberries.  SOYJOY wasn't going to cheat me on the cranberries and that is always a positive thing.  Since this was a baked bar, it felt light and flaky in my hand, so while it may look big based on its shape, it's deceptive like Styrofoam   Outside of cranberries (and soybeans obviously), there weren't a whole lot of other ingredients in this bar and that sort of surprised me.  It was just those two primary components and they few little extra ingredients to push it toward that baked line.

Biting into this, it obviously had the typical SOYJOY flaky mouthfeel.  But, one thing that was lacking in this bar was some moisture.  For a bar with the explicit tagline of "Moister & Fruitier", they failed on that aspect.  That said, they did not fail on the fruitier aspect because each dried cranberry bit carried the sweetness and tang of any dried (or fresh) cranberry that I've ever had in my entire life and I certainly appreciated that because the baked part of the bar was essentially flavorless.  Those cranberry bits also added a bit of moisture to the bar, which as I said, was desperately needed.  Outside of those two characteristics, there was not a whole lot going on with this.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I liked the cranberry flavor a lot in this bar, so I'll give it a BUY IT rating.  This is despite the fact that I found it unnecessarily dry, but perhaps that was just my bar in general and not the entire line as a whole.  Regardless, for cranberry flavor enjoyers out there, this one is worth picking up if you can get over the whole, sometimes ugly, soy connotation that this bar has.

BUY IT!!
