Review: Health Valley Organic Blueberry Cobbler Multigrain Cereal Bars

Are you familiar with the expression "tiptoeing through the tulips"?  Well, I'm remind of that as I once again decide to tiptoe through the Health Valley with my second review of one of their bottom shelf products.  This time I bent down to pick up this box of six Health Valley Organic Blueberry Cobbler Multigrain Cereal Bars at Kroger for $2.00.  Each bar is 1.3 ounces and has 130 calories and two grams of protein.  It's organic and multigrain, so I guess that is what Health Valley is using as a selling point to differentiate this from the typical cereal bar.

As you can see this one is just like any typical cereal bar with one tiny exception in that it has some oats/grain dust on the top of the bar.  I guess that denotes the cobbler crust since this is named after the particular baked product.  The bar itself is typically soft and includes the blueberry filling that has a nice, but tame, blueberry smell that leans toward the sweet side...must be the honey that is included in the bar.  Outside of that, there's nothing notable here, so let's move on.

As I took a bite of this, it was pretty much just like any other cereal bar as well.  It was soft and chewy and had a mild and semi-tangy and sweet blueberry flavor.  One thing that was somewhat noteable about this bar though was the taste of the cereal bar.  It had a twinge of cinnamon-like flavor in it and that was not something that I expected because no matter how many times I read the ingredients, I didn't see cinnamon listed as one of them.  Perhaps I'm a doofus and was imagining that flavor, but whatever it was, it was a welcome presence that added a little bit of originality to something that should have been an extremely safe and also extremely boring tasting bar.  This could have used some more filling because it tended to get toward the dry side, but it wasn't dry enough to ruin the experience.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Had it not been for that additional kick (cinnamon-like or whatever), I would have been extremely bored by this bar and not have enjoyed it.  It was that odd presence of flavor that wins this one out for me and causes me to give this a BUY IT rating.  Again, this is not a spectacular or memorable bar by any means, but it was decent enough that I was not remorseful about eating it.

BUY IT!!
